Viking 0 #1 September 6, 2004 So i was bored today as it was to hot to do anything but stay inside (we don't have AC in this house). So I went and mapped out all the DZ's around Quincy where my GF lives (where i may be in a year or two). There isn't a dropzone for a 100 miles!! the nearst by way of roads is Illinios Valley Parachute Club in Minier and that 128 miles away. Who out there has a long drive to your dz? Right now i live between three major Dropzones. Perris and Elsinore both about 60-70 miles north and then Skydive San Diego about 55-60 miles South. yes i know i have to much time on my hands!! Slowfaller 0 #2 September 6, 2004 Skydive Chicago is about 75 miles from my new apartment. Its all 55mph freeway which makes it nice. When I lived at my parents house I drove down rt 47 almost the whole way, which takes you though all these little towns, that was a bummer. freeflir29 0 #3 September 6, 2004 Hahhh...........Even worse.........I have a DZ literally 30 miutes from the house....but...I don't really like jumping there. Have another 45-60 minutes...guess what.....it's not the best thing since sliced bread either. Nice...and fun...but not TOTALLY what I look for in a DZ. Now Tecumseh.............that place kicks ass. 2 1/2 hours drive. I sure hope SD San Marcos DOESn'T suck!!!
Bodyflight.Net 0 #4 September 6, 2004 Try a 3 hour MINIMUM drive in EVERY direction... so I usually do a few a year, all together in a week or two.
larsrulz 0 #5 September 6, 2004 I drive about 110 miles to and from each and every weekend. You eventually get used to it, just part of the deal. Also, you can go 80 in Illinois without a cop taking a second look. Just so you know, IVPC is out of service currently, so you'll have to go considerably further. I got a strong urge to fly, but I got no where to fly to. -PF

streaker 0 #9 September 6, 2004 So I went and mapped out all the DZ's around Quincy where my GF lives (where i may be in a year or two). Not sure what your situation is with your GF....but stay the hell away from Quincy....bad bad bad vibes. Worked there for six years...it's a small town run by idiots that think it's a big town. Have your GF go to CA brother. Beautiful Landings! StreakerHave a yippee ki ya day!
WFFC 1 #10 September 6, 2004 QuoteJust so you know, IVPC is out of service currently, so you'll have to go considerably further. It's all Sunshine's fault you know. She made me go down on that day to experience an engine out with her. on another note, I believe Vandalia is in your circle and Taylorville (AirBoss Dean's DZ) is just outside.----- ~~~Michael

'cept when that wild bunch...who are they again...oh yea, the annual toothpick holders convention. Yea, that group can get way out of hand. (btw, I think they learned and didn't go back either.) flr169 0 #22 September 7, 2004 I've got DZ's west at 8hrs, east at 14 hours and south at 6 hrs.... So south it is at Skydive Twin Cities..... It's worth the drive....great people and facilities...... ==============================Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting - "fcuk me what a ride!" diverdriver 7 #23 September 7, 2004 It's 140 miles to Skydive Chicago from South Bend, IN (where I now live). But I have to go through F'n Gary, IN to get there and that is about 4 interstates funneled down to 3 F'N lanes! It's all under construction to expand but right now it's a pain in the ASS to get there. But, it's worth it. So, if you want fun, take the drive up to SDC and stay the weekend.
