Um... I guess the Titanic was a ship that was truely ahead of it's time 'cause "The possidon adventure" Was one of the great disaster movie of the 60s and 70s .

As for "A Night to Remember, That was a movie written by Walter lord (I think), about the sinking of the Titanic. If It was playing way back in 1912, I think everyone in the Titanic's cinima would be freaked.

After going to the movie version of a "Night to Remember", a Titanic survivor who watched the movie was quoted as saying "If they were close enough to film the sinking, why didn't they help us?"
I guess the effects were better back then than we thought!

The Titanic was one of three identical ships built by the White Star line to go up against the Cunard Line's Lusitania and Moretania.
The first was the Olynpic in 1910, the second was the Ttanic in 1912 and the third was to be the Gigantic in 1914.
After the sinking of the Titanic, the Gigantic was overhauled in mid-production to extend the water tight bulk heads up and to add more protection against rupture. The ship was then renamed the Britanic because Gigantic was to much like Titanic. Upon completion, the Britanic was bigger and greatly outweighed the Titanic and had a shitload of life boats! The Ship was conscripted immediatly and put into service as a medical ship during WWI. It did 12 voyages to the meditaranian and back until it struck a mine (or was torpedoed).

Confusion on the ship was deadly. The Captain turned the ship around in the hopes of grounding it, not realizing that lifeboats were being lowered. As the ship was light (I was on it's way to pick up wounded) the vortex from the triple screws started sucking in lifeboats.

With all the improvements to make the ship truely unsinkable, the ship sank in less than an hour, 2 hours quicker than the Titanic! This was due in part to the fact that most of the portholes were open to air the ship out. When it listed, water ran in.

Jacque Coustaeu found the wreck in 1975. It had never seen a paying passenger. Just as well, in a couple of years, the bulbous bow was invented making the design obsolete.

Olympic was decomissioned and the interiors can still be seen in hotels about the UK

My post was a joke - of course the film about the actual sinking was not shown during the sinking itself...

I suspect Kallend's post was also a joke - Bismark of course being one of Germany's pocket battleships of WWII.

I sincerely hope that lemonjelly's post was also a joke, because as you pointed out the Titanic pretated the movie by half a century... that's precisely why I made a joke about his post.
