Muppetdog 0 #1 September 3, 2004 Every one gets a punch card and every time you check any ones gear you get a punch. Later the person with the most punches or tickets or what ever gets a smiley face sticker next to his or her name on the board. Really annoying but would get people in the mind set to just look around at others gear on the plane and ground. Wait, no, the person with the most checks gets a free round of golf at the local par 3 course or a free lunch at Sizzler. Great idea.
peacefuljeffrey 0 #2 September 3, 2004 I check the gear of those around me all the time anyway. Not looking for a reward. Finding something wrong and possibly saving someone from injury and/or death is my reward. I've spotted untucked closing pin covers and riser covers, but never anything that would have likely killed anyone yet. I'm glad. That'd be spooky. One time, my former instructor Dave Cole saw me getting on a load and said, "Be careful." He was talking about some wind and and stuff coming in from the east to Pahokee, but he got me into a "check everything out" mindset, and I looked again at my chest strap and found that I had misrouted it, and all that would have held it would be the elastic keeper! Now, this is something I would have been checking in the plane prior to exit, but extra checks are way cool too, and I was glad he had planted the seeds of safety in my head. He's a great guy in general, and was serving as my skydive-conscience when I was too new to be able to ground myself if condiditions were too windy for me. It was nice to have someone with superior experience stand in the way of me getting myself hurt. I'll always be thankful to Dave and to J.C. Perren for doing that stuff for me when I was jumping at Skydive SoBe. --Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!" towerrat 0 #3 September 3, 2004 QuoteReally annoying but would get people in the mind ----------------------------------------------------------- or it might get someone some broken fingers. I don't allow anyone to touch my gear unless they are specifically asked, If you want to have a look (not a touch) at my chest strap and make sure my flaps LOOK closed, fine. Do not go grabbing on my gear, you'll get a punch card all right. Not to be rude, it just seems like an open invitation for people to start getting grabby.Play stupid games, win stupid prizes! You could get extra punches for checking any one with over 1000 jumps or for finding somthing worng with some ones gear. I liked the post I read the other day wher some one said that he has $100 for any one who finds his chest strap undone. come on, its better then Random Reserve Deployment Day. And if you said no at least it would get you thinking about it. Or maybe, free picture of potentially fatal malfunction tattoo day. That would leave a lasting impression.
