SkydiveNFlorida 0 #27 September 2, 2004 QuoteMaybe you went to food too quick? Don't forget that the jaw muscles are sore and irritated from the infection and surgery. By using them to chew you could be increasing the pain. Give your jaw a rest, ice it up when it hurts and stick to liquids and stuff you don't have to chew. You're probably right, probably ate stuff too soon. Makes sense. Thanks for the advice, i'll stick with liquids tomorrow, hopefully that helps! Angela. Angela. champu 1 #28 September 2, 2004 I had my wisdom teeth out in may, all four. bottom two had to be smashed and chiseled out in pieces, needless to say I elected not to be concious for that. when I came to I was still feeling the demerol, got driven home, took a vicodin ES and passed out, woke up 12 hours later, put in new gauss, felt a little sore but better over all, passed back out for another 12 hours, woke up, felt fine. my lower jaw was swollen for a couple days and I was on antibiotics for a week, but the pain was never bad. I wouldn't do it again if I had the choice, but I was pretty lucky.
peacefuljeffrey 0 #29 September 2, 2004 QuoteOh, no you don't! You'll get them, everyone must go through this torture!! Man, doesn't anyone else have horror stories, and the subsequent relief stories, about their wisdom teeth? Angela. I had my lowers taken out in 11th grade when I thought I was feeling some discomfort there. My dentist x-rayed them and said they were still well in the bone, but since they were gonna come in wrong I should get them taken out anyway, so he referred me to a maxillofacial surgeon and she extracted them under general anesthesia. That was one of only two times in my life I was under general -- and it was the first. What a weird thing. They gave me nitrous oxide from a nosepiece, and the injection of sodium pentothal, and told me to count to ten. I got to two. When I awoke, I was on a cot in a room across the hall, and my mother was sitting beside me stroking my head. I asked her where I was, and she said, "In the recovery room." "Well, how did I get here?" "They walked you in here -- don't you remember?" Ummm, NO. Pretty freaky that they could make me consciously do something that I had zero recall of! Amazingly, even though the teeth had been in the jawbone, I had so little pain that I never filled my painkiller prescription! The only problem I had was that the sockets would fill with chewed food, despite the stitches, and that would rot. It got to tasting reallllly gross, so I had to go back and she gave me a little needle-less syringe to squirt them out after meals. Worked pretty well until the holes healed up. Feel better, Angela. jazzjumper 0 #30 September 2, 2004 QuoteMan, I was just reading about this dry socket thing, this is serious stuff! Okay, nothing to sweat...it's easy stuff. Just ask the question. It's an easy procedure (5 minutes) and harmless, but helpful. No need to worry. Call your DDS/DMD, he/she will be able to help you out in a jiffy. No matter how good she looks, someone, somewhere is sick of her shit!

soilman 0 #32 September 2, 2004 " I can't take codine without vomitting." Maybe there is something you can take for the vomiting? And something else for the side effects that that causes? Modern medicine has something for just about everything. "Hey, it's a great way to stock up on potent pain killers and share with your friends" Hmm. Maybe I admit that I thought that was funny. Oh yea, take the NSAID they gave you plus the codeine if you can find something to take with it that kills the nausea. I would recommend dissolving a pea-sized ball of opium in the mouth. Though that might cause nausea too, if codein does. Or it may not. You may not want to ask your dentist for an opium prescription tho, unless you know he isn't an opiophobe. Same story re morphine. Morphine is said to be able to control just about any pain there is, without completely knocking you out. But, unfortunately, these days it is common for many doctors are phobic about morphine, even opium, whos active ingredient is, of course, morphine, has apparently been used safely, and without causing "addiction," for thousand of years, if used properly. Still, you may have nausea from it. Even tho I joked about it at first, i really think there is some real value to the "take another drug for the nausea" idea.____________________________________ Animal husbandry may not be necessary. mnealtx 0 #33 September 2, 2004 I had all 4 impacted, 2 only partially erupted AND a dry socket. After they yanked them out, I had trauma induced lockjaw and could only eat soup for about 2 weeks. In the long run I'm glad I got them out, but those two weeks were NOT fun...Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. POPS 9708 , SCR 14706
