Speed measurements are done by two free fall computers, Pro-Tracks, placed on lateral webbing of the competitor's rig. Each competitor is issued 2 official red Pro-Tracks for every run.

that explains everything:P

congrats jeanne!

Sweet Jeanne!

Wanna race?

You got nuthin' on my fast-fallin' sista-girl, Turtle! I know, I jumped with you! Oh wait, no I didn't...somebody didn't get off work in time when I drove 3 hours south from Ft. Worth...>:(>:( I did a SOLO at Aggieland. NOBODY LOVES ACME!!! :(:(:(

Actually I was just fine, taking a comfy ride up with only 2 tandems...he he hee Flypunk looked out of sorts...:ph34r:

Of course then I a-skeered myself on my landing. :$ And I'm sure Todd still has not forgiven me for getting a gorgeous new rig all muddy. :$ Next time I'm getting MY rig all muddy! :))

Is there a reason it's only the women's record?

Not to take anything away from Amazon, but people (men) have gone faster. Congrats to Amazon though. Just watchout for those speeds when it comes to opening. She's already blown up one canopy. You wouldn't want to get into the habit of doing this (blowing up canopies) as that could get a little expensive not to mention dangerous. :o

Not in freefly pantz and a t-shirt, they haven't! When Jeanne gets a slick suit on, she'll set a record that will remain unchallenged for decades....:o:D:D

And if you think that's fast, try doing a flower with her...we peaked at 185 mph and were only stable for a very short while (my fault)...if we could have held it longer, we could easily have exceeded 220...:o:D:D

I don't get the nit-picking. The record is for fastest US (female)

This is like saying a state record formation jump doesn't matter too much because the US and the world records are larger.

Jeez.....

If this had been a men's US record would people be so fast (pun intended) to point out that it isn't a world record?

Once again I do not wish to take anything away from Amazon, but people have gone faster. Granted I don't know how accurate my ProTrack is and I definitely wasn't following any speed record standards. But my fastest to date is 260 mph and AggieDave if memory serves me correct has been clocked even faster than that. Plus Piisfish has posted some more official speed record numbers.

Once again, congrats to Amazon for setting the US womens record. But it's no World Record as Conundrum might have been asking for.
