kelel01 1 #1 August 30, 2004 So, one of our regular jumpers was getting his tandem rating, and he needed some upjumpers to go with him for his Phase 2's. They asked me to go, and I was hesitant. Well, I get talked into it, and he asks me "Do you trust in my ability to save your life?". I said, "Of course!". Well, little did I realize that would actually come into play. We had a fairly normal freefall. I tried to mess with him, but I failed miserably. He had control the whole time. So we open, and I can't really see this, but we had about 5 line twists, so he tells me to start kicking. We kick and kick and kick, but those suckers aren't budging. So 3k comes and it's time to say "bye-bye" to the main. After what feels like FOREVER, the reserve opens, and while breathing my sigh of relief, I hear "OH SHIT!" Well, look at that, some nice LINE TWISTS ON THE RESERVE. This time, though, it's only two revolutions, so he's like "Kick Kelly, come on!", and they eventually untwirl. We had an uneventful landing, and he even managed to hold on to all 7 handles, which he handed to me right after everything had settled down. Sooooo . . . I sort of had a cutaway experience, and Mark had his tandem cutaway!!!! It was awesome, and HE ROCKED. He was so calm, unlike me. Anyway, that was my only jump this weekend. Next weekend will be different. Kelly
tricky 0 #2 August 30, 2004 Forgive me If I'm wrong, but don't you need a C license to be a tandem passenger in that phase of the tandem rating process?? I may be wrong....
kelel01 1 #3 August 30, 2004 I think it depends on the manufacturer. I don't know which one this was for.

lister55 0 #11 August 31, 2004 Yeah Kelly made the experience much better. She remained calm for me the whole time. I have to say someone to talk to during a cut-away is a different experience. But the line twists in the reserve did suck. But hey Kelly did great the whgole time. She even offered to drop all of my handles to help me fly the reserve.... Good job Kelly, thanks for going with me. See ya next time.
kelel01 1 #12 August 31, 2004 Yeah, but let's not forget-- You: "I'm gonna have to chop it." Me (In a voice 8 octaves higher than my own): "Are you serious?" Calm . . . why yes, yes I was.

sunshine 2 #18 August 31, 2004 Quote *cough*body position*cough* So i take it that everytime you've cutaway a tandem main, you were able to get back into perfect body position before deploying the reserve? Oh wait, you're prolly not a TM.... ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug!

kelel01 1 #20 August 31, 2004 That he did, my friend. Who knows why it happened? We weren't spinning, but we probably weren't 100% stable when it deployed. It is a weird thing trying to become stable in 3-4 seconds with two people tethered together. Of course, I also don't have any sport cutaways, so there's nothing for me to compare it to, either.
