andyflylife 0 #1 August 26, 2004 Hi 'yall I recently got diagnosed as having a Hernia in my lower abdomon, quite painfull but not too bad when i rest often. (like not being at work!). Ive got to wait for the surgeon to see me and tell me when i'm having an operation, could be a while yet. Wondered if anyone had been in a similar situation amd what its like jumping before surgery?? I know i'll have to lay off for some time after an opp but i need some more freefall therapy before hand!! Just wondered about opening shock...ouch or aaah! Any thoughts fellow Atmonauts?? YahooLV 0 #2 August 26, 2004 Well, that blinding pain says "Damn, You shouldn't have gone". If ya feel good, go for it, if not... (just my 2 cents...I only play a doctor in TV and at Halloween).http://www.curtisglennphotography.com
pringles 0 #3 August 27, 2004 I wouldn't jump. You can pinch off part of the intestine and it can get infected. I just had a similar operation. Not for a hernia but they had to cut through my lower abdomin and I have been down and out for 3 weeks now. I have been going to work but there is no way I can jump yet. I tried to throw a frisbie the other day and I thought my insides were going to fall out. My friend that had a hernia operation said that I have been way better off than he was. So all I can say is good luck. Matt Davies

Guru312 0 #5 August 27, 2004 I have had a hernia for over three years. My doctor said the surgery was elective; meaning, I can have if I want to but it's not life threatening. I tried a standard hernia belt. Didn't give me enough support. So I did what any jumper/rigger would do: I made my own. I made a waist strap out of risers of an old surplus rig. I use one inch tubular for straps which go between my legs and velcro for the waist and leg strap adjustment. I have two sets of small double D-rings for adjustment also. Bottom line: don't do anything like jumping without support. With it you can do damn near anything but if you want to build one wear it and get used to it before jumping. DO NOT jump or do anything that will strain yourself without some 'protection'. As your doc will tell you: if you have great pain get to the emergency room...fast. I'm planning my operation in Oct/Nov. Good luck with yours.Guru312 I am not DB Cooper
