FlyingJ 0 #1 August 26, 2004 Driving to work this morning listening to the radio (Star 94, 94.1 in Atlanta). A woman calls in asking for advice, says her 28 yr old boyfriend proposed to her, his "26 yr old" girlfriend over the weekend. She said she had to think about it. Why? The thing is, she's lied to him for the last year. She's really 38. I didn't think much of it, just asking for advice, right? Next thing I know she is on the air and they are calling the guy up so that she can tell him she wants to marry him, but that she has to tell him something. She tells him and the guy is totally devastated! Ok, so she probably should have told him a while ago, but whatever, people screw up. But getting him on the phone live to break the guy's heart? WTF?!?!? I'm not really commenting on the lie, like I said, people screw up, whatever, but I thought it was downright disgusting of her to bring the poor guy on the radio to tell him!Killing threads since 2004. Lainey 0 #2 August 26, 2004 it's not just you, that's definately wrong. She was stupid to call the radio station in the first place, then the announcers probably convinced her to call him on air. I've heard them do things like that before, pressure people into making life altering calls on the radio for the sake of interesting listening. It's so disrespectful to the partner, some things should be private. It's bad enough she lied for a year but then to tell him on air... I'd be mighty pissed if i was him at both the woman and the radio announcers. Some people just have no tact. FlyingJ 0 #3 August 26, 2004 My disgust is more with the woman than the announcers. Can't really tell, but it really sounded like she called in wanting to do this rather than having been talked into it. Even if she was talked into it, I guess in the long run it is their job to get stuff on the air that people will tune in to, and I bet you that there will be plenty of people tuning in tomorrow to hear the update. I would love to see the guy give her some walking papers, not because of lying, but because of how she dealt with it. In her defense I think she thought the guy would take it a bit lighter, but the dude was totally destroyed on live radio. Ugh. Killing threads since 2004. jazzjumper 0 #4 August 26, 2004 Worst thing about it is that this guy is a product of his own choice. Chances are this isn't the only thing she has been hiding. I'll wager something else...they will end up getting married. For some reason, people tend to follow through on bad choices (buyers remorse fixed by affirming the decision.) If he doesn't dump her, they deserve one another. No matter how good she looks, someone, somewhere is sick of her shit!
BIGUN 1,409 #5 August 26, 2004 While the introduction of new information to the dynamics of the relationship may have been initially devastating, perhaps he'll think about it and realize the reasons he loves her outweigh her age. And, maybe he'll understand her fears in telling him. I suspect he wasn't originally a candidate for a long-term relationship and what started out as a white-lie became darker as the relationship grew. I do think the radio broadcast was in poor taste and should've been done in person.Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard. FlyingJ 0 #7 August 26, 2004 QuoteI think it's wrong that you are listening to Star 94! 99X RULES! Yeah, yeah, you got me! I actually go back and forth. I'm really not a big fan of "drivetime" radio but my iPod died (really I just lost the charger and am too broke to go buy a new one right now) so alas, drivetime it is. I alternate between a few different stations because I can't bare to listen to the same station two days in a row. Today it was good ole' Steve and Vicky.Killing threads since 2004.
