"Is it okay to date a non-skydiver"

We're just a bunch of relationship non-experts, so I finally decided to seek out some experts on this subject.

Here you go:

Is It OK To Date a Non-Skydiver?
Q: I have always told myself I would never date a non-skydiver, but lately I've been wondering if it's all right. There's a guy at school who is a wonderful person and honestly one of the sweetest guys I've ever met. He has high standards like I do and accepts what I believe, but I don't think he's a skydiver. Still, I can't help but like him—he's such a great person! I've been thinking about this a lot and have asked jumping friends for advice, but I'm still not sure what's right. Dropzone.com says we aren't to be drawn to whuffos (The Bonfire), which I've been taught is a reason not to marry a non-skydiver. But Dropzone.com isn't very clear about dating. These feelings just won't go away, and I don't know what to do.

A: My advice is, stay where you are. You feel uncomfortable now, but not nearly as uncomfortable as you would if you fell in love with someone who didn't share your beliefs. Then you'd feel like you were being pulled in two directions—one part pulled toward the dropzone, another part pulled toward a person you can't seem to live without.

You're right that Dropzone.com isn't clear on dating non-skydivers. Besides, "dating" means different things to different people in different situations. Sometimes there's no emotion involved—it's just a friendly way to go to the bar or to a movie. However, I think most people will admit that in the back of their minds, they think about the possibility of getting romantically involved with the people they date.

That's why it's simpler and much less heart-breaking to avoid dating people who aren't skydivers. It's so easy to fall in love, even when you aren't intending to! Once you're seriously involved, it's terribly painful and confusing to both parties for the skydiver to make a choice between skydiving and this powerful feeling of love. I'd advise you to stick to dating those who share your beliefs.

That certainly doesn't mean you can't befriend this wonderful guy! In fact, I hope you invite him to go make a tandem or AFF jump with you. Talk to him about your skydiving. Ask him if he's interested in learning about skydiving. You could help this great guy become a follower of skydiving.

So, you heard it from the experts! Stick with skydivers!

Here's the source...scroll down a little bit for the question ;):

It seems to me like it might be better to date a very independant whuffo. If a "dating" relationship ends, it could be uncomfortable for both parties at the DZ. If I was single, I would not date other skydivers...

How about this one.....

I've Kissed My AFF Instructor
Q: I'm 14 years old, and in the last two months I've done something very wrong with my AFF Instructor. We've gotten majorly close, and I have kissed him four or five times. :o Once a week, we go somewhere together alone, like shopping or just riding around for the evening. :o:oWe both know this is wrong, and each time say we aren't going to do it anymore. He is 28, married and has three kids. His wife is a whore, his kids are brats from hell and I dont care if I hurt them. But I also love him, and he's told me he loves me too. We need help bad.

Sounds like a skydiver to me...

Totes. I always dated girls with whom I had some sort of mutual interest. Relationships were short (weeks) and some politics/awkwardness would follow. Now, my girlfriend of three years has nothing in common with me. Opposites truly do attract.

Besides, if she jumped, all my friends would like her more than they like me. Hell, every weekend they ask why she isn't at the DZ, and she's never made a jump in her life.

Just a side note: I've been pushing my friends to make a tandem jump and most of them plan on it but claim they don't have the money at the moment.

How guilty would you feel if you introduced someone you cared about immenesly into this sport and then by chance they get seriously injured. Would you feel guilty? I know I would feel at least some small amount of guilt (if not a lot).

Just a thought. However, I have also promised myself that I would not date anyone from my home dropzone. [:/] :S

Another one... didn't bother with the answer:

Q: Lately I've met a lot of really interesting jumper chicks, but some of the things I've learned about them are disturbing. For instance, they might have come from Wright Brothers Skydiving or be experienced in CReW. I realize not everyone has the jump numbers to start flying a wingsuit or the balls to get into BASE, but how can I know which disciplines to accept and which ones could potentially damage my image? My expectations for a mate are high, and I don't want to hook up with someone who will constantly suck on jumps around me or my friends. I've also met some jumper chicks who seem to have gotten their lives back on the right track after a few years of RW and standard accuracy. Will these problems tarnish a relationship that would seemingly be perfect otherwise?
