RanHam 0 #1 January 8, 2010 I just moved to florida and Im planning to go jumping at zhills within the next couple weeks. Back at my home DZ they had protecs that anyone could use so I never bought a helmet. Now I need to buy one. I wouldnt mind buying a protec but I want to buy one in person to make sure it fits and so I don't have to go through shipping and returning. Also I didnt see any protecs on the sunshine factory site. So my next option is to just buy a regular skate helmet. I read somewhere that you should have ear protection to be protected from the risers? I never notice a problem of my risers hitting my head. But anyway what do you guys think about jumping with a skate helmet? Or do you know of anywhere around the central fl area you could buy a protec in person? Thanks
tjm 0 #2 January 8, 2010 Not near as much protection as a pro tec, but I only payed 100 bucks for a Gath Hat. I've never been to Zhills, but they might let use use their student helmets (which will probably be pro tec).If you're not living on the edge; you're taking up too much room! wmw999 2,444 #3 January 8, 2010 Ski helmets are also a good option for head protection. And the gear shop at DZs will often have used helmets, possibly including pro-pecs. If you try on the student pro-tecs you should be able to figure out the right size so that you can buy it. I found a used for for $10. at a used sporting goods place. It worked just fine, and had the added advantage of making me look like I was 13 Wendy P. There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

Andy9o8 2 #8 January 9, 2010 Here's a used sporting goods franchise and some of their outlets near your DZ. I found this at random; no endorsement implied. http://www.playitagainsports.com/locations.aspx?s=17547
mjosparky 4 #9 January 10, 2010 Uses EVA foam for a liner. A little more than a Protec. Sparky http://www.skysystemsusa.com/helmets/benny.phpMy idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
