Opinions please, on a major move

Recommended Posts

A little background first. I've been living in Reno for the last 21 years, never closer than 500 miles to my family. I have a good, stable job, at which I make decent blue collar wages, but not quite enough to make the bills and come out ahead (no...I don't work in a casino, I've been a mechanic for 21 years:P).

I lived in So Cal for 9 years before I moved here, and now have an opportunity to return at a substantial pay increase, and with no living expenses other than meals...I hate the place, but I could be near my family, pay off every bill I owe within 4-6 months, and I'd be within 1/2 hour of Perris and Elsinore.

I'm torn...and I need some outside opinions. Is it worth it?

Smog, Traffic, Congestion....

On the other hand, there's family, paying off the bills, and jumping.....I'm 3 hours away from my home DZ now, and 8 hours away from my family.

This is the question grasshopper.

I think every place is what you make of it. If life hands you a lemon, make some lemonade. Were you jumping whe you were back in SoCal 21 years ago? I'd wager you weren't, which would put a whole new twist on your social/weekend scene.

I you're in debt right now and can move up in salary and pay off your debt, why not? If your no living expenses sans meals is due to the fact that you would be moving in with your parents, then I'd be a little leery, but that's just me, who left home at 17 and never really came back other than to visit for a couple of days.

Dunno if that helps.

Vinny And Jason...Yes, you both helped!

I have the same offer from my little sister and my Dad (more laid back at my sisters house, but I think I'd piss Dad off). No strings attached either way...my family's not that way.

I'm kinda thinking the same way as far as the bill thing, and being around family. They sure help with my mindset, and the bill thing may actually help get me off what I'm taking to sleep right now...(trust me...it's a heavy hitter:S)

Thanks Vanilla...I'm gonna take your word on that. I'm leaning toward the move!

And Keith, My gut says "do it". I've been living on my own since 15 though, and the idea of moving in with my little sister or my Dad is a little hard to take....I'm 42.:S

Boy do I agree with that! I took 2 jobs when the 'living with mom and dad' thing loomed over head!

But... its only 4 to 6 months in order to pay off all your bills? WoW! I'd go for it. After that... you can move out and get a place of your own, or move back to Reno.

Best of luck, I'm sure whatever you decide will be great!

Thanks Jen, and yeah...4 to 6 months to be debt free!

Not to mention I'd be getting at least 4 jumps per weekend, and be with my family. I'm thinking as much as I smoke the smog may actually cut me back.:D

BTW, I've jumped at perris before, and there's great people there. May actually help my frame of mind.:| Saw Quade there last weekend, but I figure he didn't remember me, so I didn't interrupt him.:S

come to so-cal so its dirty smelly and the traffic sucks, but we have 360 days sunshine and at least as many days jumping a year there are priorities you know! check thhis out you finish work at4/5ish drive out to perris or elsinore (hint hint) make a jump before sunset! and you're debt free and can then skydive even more, give up the real job move to the dz and become a bum wait a minute that was my life :S
