wolfriverjoe 1,523 #2 January 17, 2010 Well, the intended use defines what characteristics are needed or desired, and that determines what type of equipment is going to be selected. If you want a more specific answer, please ask a more specific question. The Skydiver's Handbook probably can answer many of your questions "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." GLIDEANGLE 1 #3 January 17, 2010 For a general explination you can also google the FAA PARACHUTE RIGGER MANUAL. There is a chapter near the beginning which gives a global overview of a parachute rig. The remainder of that manual is rather technical and no fun to read. The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!

IanHarrop 42 #5 January 17, 2010 Quotedo you have a website or can you explain the different kind of equipments with their characteristics and uses? thank you in advance May be not quite what you are looking for but good info here too http://www.dropzone.com/safety/Gear_and_Equipment/index.shtml"Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
davelepka 4 #6 January 17, 2010 Quotedo you have a website or can you explain the different kind of equipments with their characteristics and uses? That's a pretty vague question. If you consult some of the literature already mentioned, you might read for hours and not even come up with the answers you want. How about you narrow down your question a little, and maybe we can help you out. Are you asking about sport parachuting equipment, the stuff we jump for fun? Or the stuff the military uses? If so, static line military or freefall military? Are you asking about solo skydiving gear, or tandem skydiving gear? Maybe there's a specific component you need info on - main parachute, reserve parachute or harness/container? Anything else you can add to your question to make it more specific will help you get your answers. There is a 100% chance that somebody here has the info you're after. Andy9o8 2 #8 March 19, 2010 As noted above, you ask very broad questions. What you need is to get yourself a broad education about the sport, as well as its equipment. To that end, here's a general glossary of skydiving terms and vocabulary, a fair amount of which does deal with equipment. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/safety/detail_page.cgi?ID=
