Just busted some vandals, one injured

Recommended Posts

So I was taking my dog out for a piss at 10:30pm tonight when I saw a car drive by and three juveniles got out. They proceeded to steal three realtor "house for sale" signs next door. Ironically, we've been wondering who has been stealing realtor signs and then placing gobs of them at various properties near my house. No big deal really, but I don't take too kindly to juvenile punks....

Reference this thread awhile back where I busted 7 other juveniles through a nighttime IR camera system as they were vandalizing my house for the seventh time. As you can tell, I have no patience for vandals or thieves.

Anyway, I ran after the car and just as they were loading up three stolen signs, I yelled at them and the chaos began. Two of the three managed to dive back into the slowly moving car. The third didn't make it.

The third one, a 15-year old female, tried to dive back into the car and was dragged down street for about 15 feet before nearly getting run over. She did a few front flips on the blacktop as her "buddies" drove the getaway car out of sight.

I asked her if she was OK, and she appeared shaken, but with no broken bones. She was a little bloody on her shoulder and elbows. My first priority was her safety, so once she said she was OK, I gave her the best vandal speech that my 33-year old brain could deliver. She was nervous and kept checking her wounds. I asked if she wanted an ambulance or other assitance, and all she wanted to do was leave. I got the license plate of the getaway car already, so I questioned her about the driver. After telling her that I had a security camera and I knew the license number, she spilled her guts and told me the driver's name. Then I told her she is free to go, as I cannot hold her, but I'm calling the fuzz on her. She really wanted to just "go home" and kept asking me if she could leave. She walked off into the night on her own free will. As we all know, if I tried to detain a 15-year old female, my ass would be hung!

I ran back into the house and told my wife. Now, we're starting to get concerned that she is injured worse then initially thought. We call the fuzz and they interview me. The license number and name check out. Now, we'll just have to wait and see if they catch them.

What an exciting night. I've only lived on this street for a few years and I've busted two groups of vandals. Who's next? ;)

has anyone out there seen the cops program, where the guy driving tries to escape by jumping out of a stolen car at 30 MPH.
Fucking hilarious, what a mug!

Not that it matters that much, but, DAMN that was a hypcritical thing to do.

That is unless you never go against the rules to do any of what your screen name would suggest you do.

What is good gfor the goose and all that.

Yes, it was wrong for them to do that. My bet is that after they got caught in the act - it would have stopped there.

If the citizen's arrest laws are like CA, you can detain adults or juveniles who you saw committing a crime until the police arrive. I can't see any problem with detaining the female juvenile.

As silly as it may sound, you have some liability for confronting the kids and causing them to flee. In lawyerland, you are the reason the girl got dragged, cause if you hadn't been there, she would not have been.

So, next time you put on your neato beret know the rules, bring your cell phone preloaded with the local police number and try to convince anybody who is injured in your presence to hang out to be released by either or both the cops and the emt's.

That's some funny shit. Me liable? Yeah right. "I caused them to flee by yelling at them".....how funny.

And for all you non-BASE jumpers out there, you probably aren't aware that we have plenty of legal BASE jumping sites all over the world (hell, I run one of them, Bridge Day!). Just because I have a BASE number, that doesn't mean I'm vandalizing or stealing things....nor does it mean I can't bust the local vandals. I've jumped legally off all the letters, B, A, S, and E, for your information.

It's really sad when society forces some of you to look at the law-abiding victim (me) as, perhaps, the criminal. Pathetic.

Just make sure you don't jump through any clouds....that might be illegal.

How is tresspass the same as theft and vandalism?

Could it be that they are both Against The Law?
What's good for the goose . . . .

For instance - this is how I see it - : Well I don't think this law is just, so I'll break it cuz it fits my agenda - but those people - those people I will pass judgement on because I disagree with what they are doing.

Dude, fuck the flame fest.

I say good on you! It takes balls to stand up against crime. I bet they don't come around to your part of town anymore. Hopefully the cops track them down and they get the piss scared out of them, scare them out of doing stupid things like that again.

I know the cops where I grew up were like that, they wouldn't really try to put you in the juvey camp unless you were doing something serious, but they would scare the piss out of you with threats of it, etc. Scared quite a few kids out of doing stupid "boredom" crimes.

Nope. Try again. Tresspass as not a criminal offence in the UK, I was under the impression it's the same in the US.

Sure it's a CIVIL offence that can get you sued if the owner can be bothered and can find you... but you aint gonna land yourself in jail for it.

Theft or vandalism on the other hand... now that's a much more serious matter.

Not even close to being in the same league as far as I'm concerned.

Hell yeah, I've climbed many A's, some with permission and some without. Have you ever hopped a fence before? God, I hope so.

So what the hell does that have to do with last night's situation? Are you saying that because I have trespassed a few times in my life, that I should not have the right to catch thieves who are stealing property from my neighborhood?

Are you bored? Has Johnny Cochran been whispering in your ear lately?

If they were actually doing something destructive, then yeah, good on him. But c'mon... they were moving for sale signs around... hell, I've done that before. It wasn't really harming anyone, just annoying. How is it different than trespassing to make a jump? Not really hurting anyone, but could just be annoying.

I'm not saying that you did anything wrong, but like it or not, we live in a litigious (sp?) society with lawyers who like to pin the blame on anyone they can.

A few years ago, 3 girls were killed in a car accident. The girls (6 of them) had been TP'ing someone's house, and the guy came out and started chasing them. They were driving with no headlights or seat belts, in the middle of the night. The guy turned off and left them alone long before they wrecked, but he was actually charged with vehicular homicide and had a civil suit filed against him-- he was convicted (2nd degree) for chasing them and "causing them to panic and drive erratically" or something like that, and he lost the civil suit as well. The female driver had her license revoked until age 25 (she was 16 at the time) and faced no other penalties (DUI school and such maybe, but no time served).

Just saying, pick your battles . . .

That's the most worthless thing I've ever read. Our society really really sucks sometimes.

The innocent get sued for stopping the law breaking persons, since the law breaking persons break more laws by driving fast and wild, then crashing. Wow.

There’s a bit of a difference in scale. The guy convicted drove his car after the girls in pursuit. Here all BASE did is shout “oi” and run towards them. I can’t see this being anything other than a perfectly reasonable reaction to witnessing a theft.
