beowulf 1 #1 August 10, 2004 Has anyone started any testing on SP2? If so any initial problems or comments? I don't have a copy of it yet. So far I haven't heard anything good.
WrongWay 0 #2 August 10, 2004 I have yet to do any, but a good friend/business buddy of mine says he is not very impressed. Wrong Way D #27371 Mal Manera Rodriguez Cajun Chicken Ø Hellfish #451 The wiser wolf prevails.
hipgnosis 0 #3 August 10, 2004 Just installed it today. So far so good, doesn't seem to have hurt anything (wireless connections, VPN, remote desktop, etc.) If there is a major problem with it www.slashdot.org and the other sites will be posting articles about it post-haste. For now unless you have a major need of one of SP2s features I'd suggest adopting a 'wait and see' attitude. Bill
CrazyIvan 0 #4 August 10, 2004 I haven't get a copy yet, and I can test it, if it doesn't work, I just reimage my system and like nothing happened. Where's post it?, I'd like to take a look at it.__________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you.
Clownburner 0 #5 August 10, 2004 I'm a big fan of SP2, and... Oh, wait... I just remembered I'm a mac user. I don't have to install it. Sorry, I'm just used to having to wait two months before I can patch a critical software flaw. This 'patches available immediately' thing still has me confused. 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth
hipgnosis 0 #6 August 10, 2004 Microsoft is pushing it out through their Auto Update service. There are some unofficial links out there for it or you can grab it from one of the P2P networks. Neither appealed to me, so I just grabbed it through my MSDN subscription.

Clownburner 0 #8 August 10, 2004 Yep! More performance and feature enhancements. Cool! Oh, and yes, there was a security update yesterday too. Mac users aren't immune from security problems - we just don't have to wait 4 months for patches to critical issues. But what harm could possibly come from a huge army of remotely-controlled windows XP zombies hooked up to broadband? 7CP#1 | BTR#2 | Payaso en fuego Rodriguez "I want hot chicks in my boobies!"- McBeth
beowulf 1 #9 August 10, 2004 read ealier that it has their firewall enabled by default. That would block several ports that are needed for company use. This would be a pain in the ass to have to deal with. I would either have to touch each computer myself to disable it or send out instructions that half of the users would not be able to follow. If it blocked the port that Lotus Notes uses then I would be forced to have to touch each computer myself. Not something I would really want to do. rmsmith 1 #10 August 10, 2004 QuoteSo far I haven't heard anything good. I just downloaded it yesterday after I got home from work. It's the admin version of it, and it's pretty hefty!
FrogNog 1 #11 August 10, 2004 QuoteHas anyone started any testing on SP2? If so any initial problems or comments? I don't have a copy of it yet. So far I haven't heard anything good. I have started testing on it. But I can't say anything about it. I may point out that just because you haven't heard anything good doesn't mean there isn't anything good about it. It just means the only things people have said that you have heard have been bad. -=-=-=-=- Pull.
beowulf 1 #12 August 10, 2004 I didn't mean to imply that SP2 was all bad. It's good for home users, but not so friendly for IT people that would want to deploy it to a large number of users. If it "breaks" company software then it means alot of work for me.
PhillyKev 0 #13 August 10, 2004 I tested the last candidate release. After I installed it the Veritas Backup Exec management software could no longer connect to the backup server (yes, I disabled the firewall) and now when I finish downloading files and hit "Open folder" after the download, nothing happens. That's all it took for me to uninstall it (which didn't fix the 2nd problem) and decide I'll wait until they release SP2A.
beowulf 1 #14 August 10, 2004 That is good to know. I also use Backup Exec. Did you try reinstalling Backup Exec?
PhillyKev 0 #15 August 10, 2004 Errr, actually I mis-spoke. Backup Exec did come back to life after uninstalling. Just the open folder thing is still broken.
