Kbone 0 #1 August 9, 2004 I know there was another thread on here about this. I just got my August "parachutist". Once again, I was disappointed with the cover photo. The last good cover photo was April 2004 with the freefly 3 way. Awesome photo. What have we had since? May- just your run of the mill RW jump, not a bad photo but boring. June- This is just plain scary! 2 chicks from a helicopter with a dude hanging for dear life in the background! The one girl looks like a purple tellatubby. Are they lesbians? The facial expression just bugs me. July- Speaking of facial expressions! This photo is just plain terrible! A girl doing a head down exit? Barbara Bush doing a nude Tandem would have more sex appeal this chick! August- An entire roll of film was used for this jump and that is the best shot? Their faces look like they are in excruciating pain! Some suggestions that would make interesting cover photos…… -birdman jumps -base jumps -wind tunnel shots -scenic dropzones -Luigi landing his 39 sq. ft. canopy Some photos that should NOT be used? -large RW formations, there are too many of these, and they all look the same. She's awesome! And I was just about to post that. Ya beat me to it. I agree though, I haven't seen a cover in a good while that made me go "DUDE!! SWEET COVER!!!". I think everyone is biased as to what should be on the cover by what they enjoy themselves. Me, I'd love to see the vert 42 way on the cover, or maybe some sick freefly team doing their thing, but if we did that every month we'd have RW guys mumbling about "those damn new age kids". Likewise, if I saw only RW dives, I'd start thinking "Okay so what's up with the old fogies with the freefly unfriendly gear?" And those facial expressions, goofy as they may be, are the expressions we ALL make. Oh, and BASE has nothing to do with USPA, so I don't think we'll live to see a day when BASE is on the cover. I met Kaz when I was going through AFF and have been friends ever since; not only does she rock, but she is humble as hell and was one of the most welcoming females I have ever met. Women tend to be their own enemy to each other, but Kaz gave me a ton of inspiration. To see her on the cover was as exciting as if I had seen myself.Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. She's always been super helpful to my wife and I, but I do think that it isn't my favorite cover shot. Regardless, there are plent of cover shots I do like. In the end it doesn't really matter. And Kaz is pretty cool too. If you saw any of those ladies in person, I assure you that you'd take more than a passing glance at them - they're all hot as hell. You might not like the photos they put on the cover, but April, Kaz, and Shanda I know were ecstatic they made the cover and it would be a real buzzkill for them to read comments like you've just made. There might have been better cover photos out there, and perhaps not, but that's no need to insult somebody's sex appeal or call them a lesbian or a teletubby because you don't like their photo. Better watch out though, those cliffs can just fall over at any second. However, since when have BASE jumpers wanted to have anything to do with a "governing" organization like USPA (other than for skydiving reasons)? I totally agree Chris. There's been a lot of bitching about the covers lately. Of course not everyone is going to like every cover, or agree that it deserves the cover, but thats not our choice. If you want to see something else, take your own pics for submission. Maybe they'll make the cover, maybe not. The pics on the cover were submitted by someone who thought they were good, and selected for publishing by someone that thought they were good. Can't please everyone all the time. Seriously, this sport is too small and too tight knit for this kind of petty bitching and moaning. If you don't like what you're seeing - offer up something better. Not only will you be happier about what you're seeing but you'll get paid for it, too. Parachutist only prints what is submitted. Additionally, part of what's cool about this sport is the fact that 50-jumps wonders and 5000-jump wonders and superstars are all mixed in together. There is no special plane for the skygods. The dude passed out at the bonfire that I'm tripping over could have just won a gold at the World's. The person on the cover of our magazine could be just off student status. Don't you LOVE that?! Why would you deny anyone their shot on the cover? And why would you publicly ridicule not only the shooter but another jumper who's out there having a ball in our sport? Sure, some shots I prefer over others. Makes me appreciate the ones I do like. Finally, again, Parachutist doesn't employ photographers. They print what is submitted. Don't like it? Show us how it's done. Another rant altogether: What the hell does sex appeal have to do with cover shots of a female skydiver in Parachutist?? It's not Parachutits FFS!! Before you go bagging on someone elses work make sure you can do better than they can. In addition, why make fun of people that are in the photos, the two girls doing the Helo jump in Titusville, both of them are nice people. when was the last time you were in any of the pictures found in Parachutist? I think your being a little too critical. Your not really being very nice making fun of people,,,,, What would your mother say? Go stand in a corner and choke yourself.
