inearnest 0 #1 August 9, 2004 Me name be Jarret, basically I write this blog/column for a magazine named Maisonneuve, and of late have been writing about my experiences learning how to jump, the people I've encountered, the experiences I've had. There's been 3 so far, with the latest up today. Some of you have read these, but I wanted to share them, 1) because in just a month I have fallen in love with this sport and everything that comes with it, and 2) because I want to get it right when I put down my thoughts on jumping. If you have a second, check it out. The links are below. http://maisonneuve.org/blog/index.php?itemid=365 http://maisonneuve.org/blog/index.php?itemid=349 http://maisonneuve.org/blog/index.php?itemid=311--- "Once you jump. you'll never look up at the sky the same way again." inearnest 0 #2 August 9, 2004 Oh... and if you were so inclined, feel free to peruse my humble little space. It's how I get paid, and, conversely, how I pay for my Instructor Assisted Free Falls. Here endeth my first solo post on dropzone. Kind of like my first solo jump, I think, which should happen soon. Nervously.--- "Once you jump. you'll never look up at the sky the same way again." PLFXpert 0 #4 August 9, 2004 Inearnest, those are great! You should consider writing for Skydiving magazine. Once upon a time I was doing that, but it was while I was still in college and hadn't taken a single journalism course yet; needless to say, my writing needed way too much editing to proceed and once I actually learned AP style, I was too busy to write. Now I'm a broker; go figure... I love that you are putting your experience onto paper for others to visualize and share. I'm sure as you go on, you'll think of a number of ideas that could benefit other new jumpers like yourself; thus the makings of a great series of columns for Skydiving mag. Just a thought...Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
inearnest 0 #5 August 9, 2004 That would be effing brilliant. Do you have a contact over there? Any advice? Mil gracias. I cannot emphacize how amazing I've found the skydiving community to be. Just the most generous and enthusiastic people. Thanks again.--- "Once you jump. you'll never look up at the sky the same way again." Peace

PLFXpert 0 #8 August 9, 2004 Remster took care of the contact info....as far as any advice/idea. My idea when I first started was a guide to different gear; ie: canopies, containers, sizes, material, etc. so that a new jumper could make an informed decision based on all the information out there, and not just what the guys on the DZ recommend. I really got jipped on my first rig; which really irritated me b/c the guy was a friend, and I was so damn excited to get one, I didn't do the proper research beforehand; you'd think one would when they're spending around $3k. I normally research the hell out of even a toaster before I buy anything. I sold it to another new jumper (but was honest about it) and got REALLY lucky with a new one; a girl my exact height, weight and shape had a brand-new one custom-made for her, put only 80 jumps on it, and then got sponsored and they gave her a new rig; so I basically bought one that was nearly new and custom fitted to me. Anywho...just an idea...I'm sure as a fellow writer you won't have any problems.Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
lkolkin 0 #9 August 9, 2004 Yo Jarret! You ROCK and your words are something all of us on this forum can relate to. Keep up the blogs, I for one, enjoy reading them. Though I still don't know what your beef is with American Idol, lol! Lucia
