Evelyn 0 #1 August 6, 2004 The reason I ask is because i've seen people at the DZ who were totally hung over from partying the night before asking for asprin and then going up on skydives. Myself, I like a glass of wine or two after getting home from 8 hours at work and 2-3 hours at the gym. But if I'm going to be jumping the next day I limit myself to one glass of wine. When I was really new to the sport I wouldn't drink at all the day before I jumped. So I've never jumped hungover - figure I need all my senses and a clear head. But I guess there are people who jump after overindulging the night before. Just wondering how common this is. Since I went from no drinking to one glass of wine maybe I'll eventually learn to party and jump. Slowfaller 0 #3 August 6, 2004 Yes I do. Monday night for instance I probably drank $30 and then numerous free drinks while playing poker. Passed out on the couch, woke up at noon, drank a whole bunch of water, smoked a cig(to those who remember yeah i started smoking again) and then manifested at 1. I wasn't really hung over but a little sleepy, after i ate lunch I felt fine and did 3 more jumps. peacefuljeffrey 0 #5 August 6, 2004 I've done it once and only once. I rarely drink, ever, in the first place. On Saturday I was at a DZ party after night jumps, (I had not done any night jumps, btw), and I had about 6 or 7 shots of tequila (they may not have been full "shots," either). I got decently drunk, and drank a lot of water before bed. I got up the next day feeling 100%, so I had no trouble at all in my head or my body. Skydives #99 and #100 went very well. I suppose it will probably be another year or more before I have that much to drink again. I guess my short answer to your question is "No. And if I were hung over, I would not jump at all. I think that's stupid, and asking for a fatality. --Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

FIREFLYR 0 #7 August 6, 2004 I've found skydiving to be the best hangover cure on the planet! even if alkaseltzer and coffee don't fix it skydiving will for a short amount of time. usually about 15 minutes for me.Pack quick! ~J"One flew East, and one flew West..............one flew over the cuckoo's nest" "There's absolutely no excuse for the way I'm about to act"

Evelyn 0 #9 August 6, 2004 QuoteIs this a trick question? No. I'm just really curious if people can jump hungover since I've never tried it and don't know if I could or would want to try it. MarkM 0 #12 August 6, 2004 My biggest worry would be waking up still drunk. I've had a few late night parties where I drank too much and the next morning I was still a little drunk. I'd never want to jump in that condition. I wouldn't want to jump hung over either, not because of a safety issue(hung over doesn't mean impaired for me), but because I just wouldn't feel like it. The only time I've drunk prior to a skydiving day I quit drinking when I knew I'd reached the "good buzz" point and was fine the next day.

bch7773 0 #14 August 6, 2004 it really depends on how much i am gonna drink and if i am supposed to be at the dz the next morning really early, or just sometime during the day. i try not to get really drunk the night before i plan to make a lot of jumps, because even if i don't get a hangover, i don't wake up till after noon, and half the day is wasted. captain1 0 #15 August 6, 2004 March 13h this year. USPA Safety Day. I was the Demo, Ha Ha. I was partying in Daytona Beach "Spring Break" Fiasco till 2AM the night before. Checked out of my hotel at 10 AM. Drove Hwy 90 to DeLand and checked into another hotel in DeLand at 11 AM. Took a two hour nap, went to the DZ and put myself in a wheelchair for 2 months. My accident was caused by an unintentional downwind landing and I am pretty sure that my accident could have happened whether I had party'd the night before or not due to bad habit and form under canopy, but regardless, I was not fresh and it was a link in the chain of events that could have prevented my accident. JoeBobinNC 0 #17 August 6, 2004 I think I've been hung over for about 32 of my 33 jumps. I'm sure one day I'll exhibt a little more self control when I'm out at the bar, but that shit isn't happening anytime soon It doesn't matter if a cat is black or white, as long as it catches mice. AggieDave 6 #19 August 6, 2004 I've been on both ends of the spectrum, I've woken up at a boogie, gotten on a load and realized on the ride up that I'm still 1/2 drunk from the night before, its been that bad. I've stayed stone cold sober and not drank the night before. Now days I'll have a couple at the DZ, then go home for a much needed shower and sleep. Especailly have working my ass off with my student load in this Texas heat. Being even remotely hung over in this heat and working as hard as I have been in the past couple years at the DZ is NOT fun, so I keep myself within limits.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." peacefuljeffrey 0 #20 August 6, 2004 QuoteThe only time I've drunk prior to a skydiving day I quit drinking when I knew I'd reached the "good buzz" point and was fine the next day. I remember that day! I got drunker than you did, and was completely sober and 100% the next day for jumping. I'll add that it'll be a while before I drink anything like that again, not because it was a problem but because I just don't like to do it very often. I will also add that I think it is irresponsible and potentially dangerous to skydive with anything other than a clear head -- that means certainly not still drunk, and certainly not stoned, and certainly not "hurtin'," as with a hangover, which is bound to dull your reactions and awareness. Using skydiving as a cure for a hangover is, in my view, using those around you as pawns in a dangerous game in which you might collide with one, or interfere with the safe operation of one, and end up killing someone. It just isn't worth it. What's wrong with doing your celebration drinking at the end of a jumping weekend, and then getting a designated driver to take you home? BTW, for those who jump at Sebastian and/or Clewiston, I do offer myself as a DD if you need it. If it's far out of my way, I'll just tax you for gas, but other than that, if you need it, yes, I'll save your life for you. Just ask me, okay? --Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... yoink 321 #21 August 6, 2004 [shudder] jumping while hungover.... it's a kill or cure remedy. It'll either get rid of you hangover totally, or you'll feel so awful after (starting in the plane) that you won't be able to jump till about 4 in the afternoon... I'll drink the night before, but not to large amounts to excess, especially not if I'm wanting to either be in the classroom or on the first load... BASE813 0 #22 August 6, 2004 shit, most of my Sunday jumping was done hung over to hell.......... once I vomitted out of the door before take off I felt so rough, I have to admit though, after about a year of doing that I realised it was not much fun and that it was a waste to skydive so woolly in the head................. its actually a great feeling being at the DZ feeling chipper whilst people around you feel so shit!! TheAnvil 0 #23 August 6, 2004 Personal responsibility. Each person's ability to function the morning after is different. I do drink the evening before, myself. Tequila most of the time, but I also partake of the Nectar of the Gods - beer - en masse with great frequency. AndyMan 7 #25 August 6, 2004 At Chicagoland, it's pretty entrenched tradition that there's going to be a bonfire every saturday night. People drink around the bonfire until the wee hours of the morning. Some even stay up to watch the sun rise. People drink whatever amounts they're comfortable with. Some have just a few, some drink to far excess. Surprisingly, there is no corelation between how late someone stays up, or how much they drink, and how many people make the early morning loads on Sunday morning. A huge number of people jump hung over. Last Sunday, I showed up at the DZ at around 10:00, and since the days tandems hadn't shown up yet I jumped on a 12 way, I would fly video. Looking at the group during the dirt dive, we were all pretty much convinced it would be a complete cluster-fuck. EVERYONE was hung over - myself included. Something magical happened though, the 12 way turned 12 points, and I shot the best video I ever have. Yes, people jump after a night of drinking. Jumping is by far the best way I've ever found to clear a hangover. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
