RW organizing sucked on the Summerfest

Recommended Posts

Just let you know that if you are low experienced or intermediate RW jumper, and you didn't come to the Summerfest this weekend... you did GOOD!
By the SDC advertisement they were suppose to have great RW load organizing for all skill levels... This is the reason I went there... BUT haven't seen anything like that!
The ONLY organized RW load was a 30some people formation from 2 aircraft. I don't have enough experience to jump this size formation with brakeoff at 4500... so I had to walk around all day and organize my skydives by myself... and ended up jumping with people who have the same experience like I do... so haven't learned anything new... After I asked Missy Nelson to help me, she said "Come freefly with us!". This is not why I came here... I would like to get those "great" load organizers for all skill levels, like your commercial and brochure said... Rook's apologized and explained that some load organizers cancelled and now he has a shortage... but I think that they could do something about that... 'cause that load with 30some people had enough highly experienced RW flyers and I'm sure some of them would be happy to organize smaller loads if they would give them a "right offer"... bottom line... he has enough experience to organize small loads by himself...I think... So... to make the long story short... I wasted my 30 bucks that I paid just to enter the Summerfest gate and got absolutely NOTHING for it!
...and one more thing: if you go there to jump from the CASA don't go... the tailgate airplane was flying only 5-6 loads on Sunday, because nobody wanted to jump from it?!?! The reason for this is that SDC let their own people use the Twin Otters for 14 dollars/jump... and for the Casa they charged 18... The result was "sorry, but we can't fill up the tailgate load..."! ...no surprised!
I learned my lesson this year and I already know that next year I will stay in my Hinckley and get better organized RW loads for cheaper... SDC has to make a freefly Summerfest next year, so nobody will come, get upset and waist the money...

Wow......your local grocery store should have a nice selection of cheeses to go with that. :S:D

I think with the cheese he may want to stop and buy some paragraphs. That was painfull to read. :D

Ditto. I have no idea why someone would go to a boogie with the intent to do 4 way:S Sound like you were looking for coach jumps.

$30 bucks huh, and you got nothing at all for it? I'll bet they had food, or beer, or Dj's, or something.

Nice of you to bash them though.... have a good day.

May I suggest a nice sharp cheddar.. or maybe a gouda?

SkyDive Chicago is one of the friendliest and nicest places I have jumped. I went to Summerfest last year and it was a blast!!!! Donovan went out of his way to show me around and give me the tour. And the friends I made were fantastic.
People were always going..let's go do a jump and I will video(at no charge).

Sorry your experience wasn't better.. but to bash them for this is I think is absurd.

You go to learn from different people, and hoping for some different insights. This would probably have been much better sent as a note to SDC, but there were plenty of people at Skyfest in Houston who weren't up to the bigger loads.

I have to agree with you Breezejunky. I don't blame him from being upset. He probably could have stayed has his home DZ and done the same jumps without all the costs of boogie registration and travel.

If they advertise organizing at all levels, they should have found the organizers for all levels. I'm sure some of those freeflyers still remember how to fly on their belly well enough to organizes a low to mid-skill load.

on a side note, I do expect to find the pop (soda, whatever) that is suppose to be included at the WFFC. I have never ever found it - at any boogie except the ones I help organize. I will bug every person I can find that has ANYTHING to do with convention until I do.

I will be starting dzbash.com shortly. Everyone can vent about every bad experience they've had at any dz, and every unsafe action they've ever witnessed. I think it will be a real asset to the skydiving community - there will be less injuries and fatalities overall, and people won't have bad experiences at a dropzone... ever. Granted, this will be just because no one will want to jump at any dz in the world because they will all be shitty, unsafe places, but I think the result is worth it.

I think I was agreeing with you -- we even added an LO when he was doing the job anyway, and he did do some of that, and would have done more if there hadn't been a sign-up list.

I thought it was pretty well run in many ways.

Come to Rantoul. This clicky describes the LO setup.

Tent #2 will cater to the intermediate skydiver who has had some experience in 4 to 8 way and is looking to make some fun jumps and learn the details of small to medium size RW. Groups will be usually be sized from 4-12, and we will occasionally do larger formations according to group size and interest. A great place to meet new jumpers at the Convention and expand your RW skills.

This sounds like what you are looking for. There is lots of organizers for intermediate experience jumpers. You can jump with a different one every day if you wish.

But to skyfest's advantage, there were a lot of people organizing SCR's, 8 -16 ways and the Skyvan kept flying hot most of the days.

That could be cuz Flyangel2 was there.

Evan a Tandem Passenger SCR was done - so I would think that constitutes Every Level!

Nice Posters BTW Pier - Really nice work.
I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama

It will be right next to the end of the entertainment tent, next to the free beer. No problem at all to find it at WFFC.

Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money.

Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?

Update - the intermediate tent will be concentrating on 8-ways or thereabouts; Tent 3 will be concentrating more on smaller dives (4 ways.)

Ummmm,

Did you happen to see Billy Weber, by any chance? He was organinizing low to mid level jumpers all weekend long, he's been doing that at SDC since the beginning of July. I think there was at least one other RW organizer besides Billy who was not working with the 2 plane shots, although it is true one organizer they expected did not show up. Maybe they could have set it up better or used a sign up board like they do in the freefly area, but that's never really been necessary before. As I walked through the hangar, I saw plenty of RW jumpers in smaller groups dirtdiving and post diving.

I did notice the Casa did not get used much over the weekend. Possibly because they were using the otters for the big ways? I don't know what to say about that.

As far as the $14.00 jumps- some people prepaid for their jumps at the beginning of the year to get a discount, but SDC can only be expected to honor that discount on their own planes. Maybe that wasn't explained to you properly.

Was that gouda or cheddar?
