SDC is my home and i love it there, but everyone has a right to their opinion. I'm sorry the guy didn't have a good time, but he has every right to say whats on his mind. It's true, the CASA didn't get jumped much. I had to pay the same price for otter and CASA jumps since i'm not on the prepaid $14 deal. I still prefer otters to CASAs. There was a few people doing 4way RW organizing. They weren't "official summerfest LOs" but they were there. Anyone would've pointed them out if asked, but perhaps this guy was too shy to ask anyone. I don't understand why you think he has a chip on his shoulder. He went to and advertised event and felt he did not get what he paid for. He spoke with not one but two of the top dogs at the DZ (I LOVE Skydive Chicago, by the way) and still felt he did not get anywhere. It appears neither of them were able to point out where exactly to go if there was someone to organize the type of jumps he was looking for. I'm sure some of you freeflyers may have thought there were plenty of flat flyers doing stuff, but that may have been with people on teams, or who came together or whatever. Some people have posted how awesome they thought the event was. I've heard great things about Summerfest in the past and almost went once but at that time I wasn't much into freeflying and I was lucky enough to get the message that it was pretty much a freeflying event. There's nothing at all wrong with that, but I too would've been disappointed back then if I had gone as I wasn't yet ready to get into freeflying. I had definite goals I wanted to achieve in formation flying first. Part of the fun of a boogie is meeting people you jump with (not everyone makes friends in the bar after) Why can't someone post what they thought was wrong? A lot of belly flyers came for a chance to do 2 and 3 plane shots, which they've done every year since Summerfest started, but there WERE other load organizers around. One thing I love about Summerfest every year is getting to meet and jump with new people and I usually pass on the big ways in favor of smaller jumps just so I can do that! Billy Weber in particular is known for keeping his groups small, fun and low pressure. He'll even work one on one with you if he feels you need it. And he'll organize all levels. SDC has been providing his services free of charge for a month now! And he's hard to miss in the hangar! Maybe it needs to be set up a little better, that's all. Give Rook and Missy a little feedback since they are sort of new at being DZOs and organizing events like this, but they'll get there. Granted, this will be just because no one will want to jump at any dz in the world because they will all be shitty, unsafe places, but I think the result is worth it. Actually, I'd like to see more of people being honest in their assessments of boogies, DZ's, gear, etc. Go look at the DZ reviews and gear reviews on this site. According to those, one would have to believe that almost every single DZ in the world is the best DZ in the world, except those rare DZ's that are the worst. Most boogies are pretty cool and an awful lot of DZ's are cool too. Some places/events are great, and others are a bit lacking. I like reading when people get on here after a boogie and say they had a blast, and if someone didn't have so much fun, I want to hear that too. Sometimes things don't work out according to plan, and the event organizers take what they've learned and apply it to the next time. This is why many people consider their Dropzone the Best in the World. (I for one have never been there, but I've heard nothing but the best about it..) How about this - Instead of voicing your complaints in a condescending tone to us here on DZ.com, wouldn't it be better to write a letter offering advice on how to Improve Summerfest for next year?? When you start talking down to people and voicing too much of the negative, I gurantee you that your pleas will fall on deaf ears.. How about this... A Letter to Missy and Rook " Hey Missy and Rook - I just wanted to Shoot you this letter and let you know how much I enjoyed Summerfest this year!! Blah blah blah I made x-so many jumps from your aircraft and blah blah... The parties and food were amazing, thank you so much for putting this on for us!! As a relative worker, I was excited to see you had advertised some Load-Organizing for the low-timers, like myself. When I arrived, Rook informed me that due to some unforeseen circumstances, Several of the Load Organizers were unable to attend as planned. With so many jumpers and all the opportunities available, I had no problem in putting together some simple relative work with other jumpers of my skill level. However, I feel that I could have learned more and had more fun if there would have been some formal Load-organizing for Low-timer relative workers. I'm sure that it would really attract many more jumpers to Summerfest Next year! Once again, I had a great time & I can't wait until next year. Blah Blah (Conclude with a summary of your main points, emphasizing the positives) I can't wait until Next year - many of my friends have been intrigued and will be coming out for tandems in the fall!! Blue Skies, Unstable " I know this seems indirect, but something like this letter will have more of an impact than just voicing a complaint....
 sundevil777 102 #44 August 3, 2004 QuoteThe ONLY organized RW load was a 30some people formation from 2 aircraft. I don't have enough experience to jump this size formation with brakeoff at 4500. Wow, how times have changed. At 280 jumps It is too bad that you don't have the confidence to be a part of it. I don't mean to say you should get into a dangerous situation-over your head, but are you sure the organizers could not find an appropriate slot for you? I do know that you would have been on Cloud 9 if you had been part of the big-ways. Honestly explain to the load organizer your skills and misgivings and let them decide. They may tell you, sorry, it is over your head, or they may welcome you near/as part of the base. This time of year, every weekend is a CASA boogie at SGC-Xenia! I don't mind them being slower, they are so comfortable and I love the big, wide tailgate for RW exits.People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. Let's try to take this one step farther... Okay, lets be constructive here. Now I know Missy is and Rook are very intelligent and they run their Operation with Skydivers In mind. I hope this helped!!=========Shaun ==========
 ACMESkydiver 0 #46 August 3, 2004 QuoteAnd another thing. If National and World Champion freefliers invite you to jump with them for just the cost of a jump ticket: "After I asked Missy Nelson to help me, she said 'Come freefly with us!':" many people would think that was a great opportunity, and not bitch and whine about it. Not the opportunity that was sought. I wouldn't pay a dime for an all-freeflying convention; I'm not a freeflyer now, and never intend to be one. (not that this was a freefly meet apparently, but just making my point). That's like saying that someone who scuba dives would be stupid to miss an opportunity to ride Hunter-Jumper with an Olympic Gold Medal Equestrian. Your statement would have been better off in a PM to all the people that posted on this thread so those that aren't involved wouldnt have to read such jibberish! kallend 2,098 #41 August 3, 2004 QuoteTigra, Do you know what Load Organizing means??? If you see somebody dirt-diving, that doesn't mean that they are organizing a load to anybody... There were a few 4way teams and one 8way team practicing for themselfs... but that doesn't mean that I could just hop in to their work! Billy Weber was organizing some loads on saturday, but on sunday he gave up after he got some freefall injury... If there were "so many" load organizers, like you said... than how Rook and Missy didn't know about any of them when I asked?!?! ... and I didn't say that people at SDC are not friendly, fun,etc... I just said that they were selling something they didn't have! Really? Tell us again why Billy Weber wasn't organizing on Sunday afternoon, and how that translates into SDC selling something they didn't have? I saw lots of people doing small ways all day long, both days. And another thing. If National and World Champion freefliers invite you to jump with them for just the cost of a jump ticket: "After I asked Missy Nelson to help me, she said 'Come freefly with us!':" many people would think that was a great opportunity, and not bitch and whine about it. Perhaps the problem is not the DZ's.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.
