SpeedRacer 1 #1 August 4, 2004 I keep hearing it pronounced different ways. I heard an interview of an Iraqi once who didn't like it when people mispronounced it. so how do you say Iraq? SpeedRacer 1 #6 August 4, 2004 yep, that's it! it's "ear rock"....or it could be "ear rack" if you don't flatten out the "a" too much...like maybe "ear rack" with a slight British accent. "ear rahk" Speed Racer --------------------------------------------------

sum1mom 0 #8 August 4, 2004 Funny you posted this....I work for an Iranian!! And the first time I pronounced his homeland as "eye-ran," he nearly sent me right back home!!!! So there are no "eyes"....it's "ears" The worst thing you could possibly call someone from Iran is "eye-rain-ian".....they hate it.... Same applies for ear-rawk. Soo.......how 'bout this: Does it make you crazy to hear "eye-talian dressing" vs. eh-talian. Good post.

nacmacfeegle 0 #15 August 5, 2004 "Hmmm, I wonder how T.E. Lawrence would have pronounced it." Well then its probably 'none of the above'.... We seem to pronounce it Ih-rack, with Ih as in 'Illinois', its not Eye-lin-oy is it? Ih-ran is the same. At least, thats the case over here.....-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me.
