gavmaniac 0 #31 July 7, 2004 Gotta say I've had some tandem students bring their own music which really did NOT fit the occasion... even had opera & chamber music (not saying the music is crap, just that I can't see it being suitable on skydiving footage)*ANTI-LAWSUIT STATEMENT Even had some dude with music which sounded like a well-used stretched porno movie Then, of course, there's Mr De Mars' infatuation with Engelbert Humperdink

MikeJD 0 #33 July 7, 2004 Quote Ya know, the fact that they probably bought the guitar riff makes me wonder about the copyrights on videos. Is it legal? Have we discussed this before and I should search? Not trying to stir the pot, but I am curious..... Interesting thread you linked to about copyright, Lummy. I guess the owners of the rights probably have bigger fish to fry (like mass-production pirates), but the fact is that it's copying somebody's work, and worse, using it as part of a package that's then being sold on to someone else. Now, I think in this case, especially with the older stuff, it's as likely to promote that artist's material as it is to put him / her out of pocket - you probably just made a better video for the song than s/he did! But to me the ideal would be to produce your own tracks. Every dropzone must have musical talent, and you can make studio-quality recordings in a bedroom these days. Get someone to write and record the perfect skydiving soundtrack - including all the changes of tempo etc. that work well with a tandem video. Then it will be exactly right, you can use it again and again and there's never any possibility of you being chased for royalties. It also gives your budding dz musicians a chance to get their stuff out to a big audience! Just a thought...
