HeatherB 0 #1 August 2, 2004 Fuck. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5569979/ I know we've had so many other threats, but these are very specific, location-wise.
soilman 0 #2 August 2, 2004 Interesting that the news media and general public is being informed. Just what the average citizen can do, other than stay away from these locations, doesn't seem to have particularly well worked out and communicated to the general public, does it? At least, I wouldn't know what I ought to do differently, now that I have this knowledge. "Be on the lookout for suspicious behavior." I don't know about that. Peek into truck to see what kind of cargo they are carrying and be on the lookout for bombs? What if the terrorists put put bombs in cardboard boxes that said "carrots" on the side? Should I sneak into trucks and look inside the boxes? I don't know. That's just it -- I don't know. I'm not saying I think the public should not be informed. I think we need not only more information, but maybe some of us could be trained on just how to be effectively suspicious instead of merely generally suspicious.____________________________________ Animal husbandry may not be necessary. jtval 0 #3 August 2, 2004 anyone wanting to do harm would attack these places. it's nothing new to the gov't that these place require high levels of protection etc. before this gets political I should add that the "specificity" of this threat was not unknown to most people who follow what goes on in war. the infrastucture will do the most damage to any country etc...thats what is targeted in every war. its the other things like landmarks and buildings that don't do much but "terrorize" people becuase there is just no sense in itMy photos My Videos
HeatherB 0 #4 August 2, 2004 I suppose it justs hits home a little more since I work for Citigroup, and my father worked for them for 27 years, most of that time in LIC and 399 Park. I'm not surprised they are going for "iconic" buildings.
PhillyKev 0 #5 August 2, 2004 Location specific, but not time specific. They're not even sure if the intel is outdated or not.
jtval 0 #6 August 2, 2004 Trust me , I know the feeling. 90% of the people I know and love are in NY. but thats been a terrorist target since godzilla was taught to breathe fire in english. I'm not trying to say we should all relax to a point where we don't care/are less vigilant. but fear and panic won't help either. My photos My Videos
freeflir29 0 #7 August 2, 2004 QuoteAt least, I wouldn't know what I ought to do differently, You shouldn't do anything differently. If you work in that building every day.....you know what's "normal" and what isn't. Far more than cops or feds. You are the local expert. What you should do? Easy.....brush up on your info. Know who to report suspicious activity to. In a big building like that I'm sure there is some sort of security function. Know the number to call. Brush up on evac procedures for your building. Take a first aid class. Know where the first aid kits are in your building. Know where the fire extinguishers are. Basically.....take responsibility for yourself. Feds and cops can't be everywhere. We need your help to prevent terrorist actions and minimize their impact if an attack occurs.
chaoskitty 0 #8 August 2, 2004 Yeah, this is a non-humorous subject to be taken seriously.. but since this is The Bonfire.. What to do in the event of a terrorist attack (yes you have prolly seen this before but dammit its funny!)

kallend 2,106 #10 August 2, 2004 I recommend keeping an eye on hobby shops. If you see any middle eastern looking men buying model rockets, call the FBI and BATF immediately.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.
