Lager OR CIDER- What's less fattening???

Recommended Posts

Okay, I was in the shower the other day and noticed that I had a bit of a gut on me.

I don't normally eat crap food and go to the gym 3 times a week. i'm generally very active.
So, i can only put the belly down to Lager drinkin.
I don't want to change to shorts as I'll end up even more wrecked of a night.
I was thinking about drinking cider instead.
My Question is: Is there more or less sugar in cider than lager, or are they both about the same??

For some folks, their metabolism slows down a bit as they get older.

It's probably not the lager drinking, most beers only have about 13 calories per ounce. Cider has a little bit more than that, but neither of them can likely be blamed for having a bit more belly.

Interesting article, lower down the page, here...

It won't work. Cider has a lot of unfermented sugars in there. The yeast can only handle so much, and a lot of sugars go unfermented in cider.

As you go down the metabolic chain from carbohydrates to alcohol, there are progressively fewer calories. It's a basic law of thermodynamics. If the yeast have been feasting on it, there's going to be less energy left over (fewer calories).

Typically in cider, there is a LOT more unfermented sugars left over. So a pint of cider will have more calories than a pint of lager.

We have a popular brand of hard cider here in the USA called Woodpecker Cider, about 5% alcohol. It is VERY sweet, and the 12 ounce bottle has 200+ calories. A 12 ounce lager would probably have about 100- 170 calories or so.

try switching to unsweetened herbal tea.:S
