happythoughts 0 #1 July 30, 2004 A couple of years ago, I had just met this girl and she invited me to hang our with a bunch of her friends. A night out shooting pool. There was about 10 of us. I had a few drinks and started telling dirty jokes. One of the women said, "You must not be gettin' much, that's all you seem to talk about". She was right and she got me to thinking. I started noticing stuff like that. Now I see tandem passengers smoking cigs and telling me how "macho/cool/xtreme" they are, I pause. It's like Lady MacBeth, "...me thinks the Lady protesteth too much". Who are you trying to convince? It can be being cool, sexy, extreme, or tough-guy. Ran into the an insecurity freak lately? What'd they try to convince you of?

I'm shocked that anyone that post here would even do that kind of thing If it's on the Internet, it must be true!May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. Darius11 12 #11 July 30, 2004 I have seen a lot of guys who act tough. I think my dad told me the best thing when I was young. He always said people who are bullies are the biggest pussies cause they have no heart. He was right. I think it’s the same for a lot of things. Guys who talk about sex all the time aren’t getting any, guys who act macho are insecure, and so on and so on.I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not." - Kurt Cobain

VanillaSkyGirl 6 #15 July 30, 2004 QuoteRan into the an insecurity freak lately? What'd they try to convince you of? Yes, I think that they are also trying to convince themselves or certain things. I see people online who make me flinch and feel sorry for them whenever I read a new post of theirs because they blatantly hit on EVERYONE in a sad attempt to look like a ladies' man. The women's version of this is needing constant attention not just from their male friends online, which I admit can be fun and innocent, but from ANY man online. I just hope that these people can find someone who actually gives a damn about them because I think that is what they really want and need...attention and love from one person. Unfortunately, their methods to achieve this probably end with the opposite results. Seriously, I wish that I could give all those lonely hearts a big hug (I mean that). Rodney Dangerfield hired Kurt Vonnegut to write his essay on Kurt Vonnegut, and the lady teacher he was hitting on said that whoever wrote that essay didn't know the first thing about Kurt Vonnegut! .. he's an author and a playwright. Icon134 0 #19 July 30, 2004 ok, I don't have any sex... and don't talk about it all the time either... (not really into dirty jokes either...) Also, whenever anyone tells me I have "game" I emphatically deny it... because I have no game, period, end of story. if I did perhaps I would get to first base sometime or at least half way down the baseline. Oh, and I think Kurt Vonnegut is a wierd author to read... not that this is a problem... just an observation... course Hemingway is wierd too... chaoskitty 0 #21 July 30, 2004 Thats because its better to be lonely than ignorant.. at least by my standards.. though I laughed at his comment too. Ever notice that ignorant people are rarely lonely? They've got plenty of company..
ACMESkydiver 0 #22 July 30, 2004 I'm desperately trying to convince people that I'm a red-headed biotch with an attitude... Oh wait, nope. KV likes to make a point, but he does it with stuff that has a lot of science fiction. It is a handy device because you are not operating in a normal frame of reference, so you can't use an old perception. You start thinking, "Well, if time did repeat itself, what would people be doing?" (Timequake) Sometimes the cast of characters were a WW-II bomber crew, a porn star, and space aliens. (Slaughterhouse V) He is weird, but he does get you wrapped up in the story.
