ChasingBlueSky 0 #1 July 29, 2004 After a conversation I had with someone asking me questions last night, I would figure I would post this. Previous visitors know how goofy August weather in Illinois can get. Don't let the reports of 70F this past week fool you...it will get hot by the time the convetion starts. In fact, we have 90F+ days forecasted ahead. Make sure to drink plenty of water during the day. What else to expect? At least one storm, and usually its powerful summer thunderstorm (reminder: Don't hold onto your tent when a microbust hits tent city). I think last year was the first time I had to pull out a sweatshirt and jeans for more than one night._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... skybytch 273 #4 July 29, 2004 Quote(reminder: Don't hold onto your tent when a microbust hits tent city). Another reminder - know how to stake your tent out! They include that rain fly and those extra stakes for a reason. Pitch it tight and it'll still be there, nice and dry inside, while other folks will be headed to WalMart to buy a new one (and to a laundromat to dry their clothes) after the storm. If you don't know how to pitch it correctly, ask around til you find someone who does.

happythoughts 0 #14 July 29, 2004 QuoteI think last year was the first time I had to pull out a sweatshirt and jeans for more than one night. Yep, expect warm days and pleasant evenings, but prepare for the unexpected. A pair of jeans and sweatshirt is sometimes necessary. The requisite one-day uber-storm is a norm for WFFC attendees. Stake that tent or expect it to be in tumbleweed village against the fence. Good things to bring up.
ChasingBlueSky 0 #15 July 29, 2004 I learned the hard way the first year I went when I didn't stake my tent down. Then there was the year that a plane wasn't properly tied down _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... SkymonkeyONE 4 #16 July 29, 2004 If you are tenting it, you had better bring not only a good ground cloth and rain fly, but ideally something that will keep you elevated off the floor of your tent. There has never been a year to my memory that has not included a torrential downpouring, near-hurricane-strength storm. If you shit is not tied down, it will be long gone. Also, if you screw up and leave the awning to your RV out, it will tear cleanly off and you will cry like a baby knowing that it's gonna cost you $1500 to replace the fucker. Conveniently, there is a laundry service which operates during the convention! It's not that expensive and it (at least last year) is located right over across from registration on the main drag (same road as the main entertainment tent, but on the other side and nearest the golf cart rental place.
