CanuckInUSA 0 #1 July 26, 2004 Years ago I watched the original Texas Chainsaw Massacure movie and didn't think much of it as I thought it was poorly done. But this weekend I watched the modern version (which was much better) and I have to say I can't ever recall watching such a disturbing movie (and I'm not one to get scared at movies). I know the movies were based on an actual event (which makes things worse). But I'm just not sure why anyone would want to buy this movie. Don't get me wrong, I think the producers, director and actors did a great job with this modern iteration. It's just that this is one sick movie and who in their right mind would want to watch it over and over again. kai2k1 0 #2 July 26, 2004 I thought the original was pretty funny for its time. I havent seen the updated version of it yet. Was it scary of just gorry? There's no truer sense of flying than sky diving," Scott Cowan
CanuckInUSA 0 #3 July 26, 2004 Watch the new one ... but just watch it once ... it's more disturbing than anything else. I didn't find it any more gory than your typical hollywood gory movie and with the exception of one surprise ... it's not over scene, I didn't find it scary at all. I just found this new movie to be very disturbing as how could people treat other humans this way. But something similar to this movie did happen in real life. Go figure? Personally I think if you have the stomach for it, this new version if worth watching. But I have no desire to ever watch it again. FallRate 0 #4 July 26, 2004 Considering the cost of watching a movie at the theatre, buying the DVD, any DVD, tends to make sense. FallRate

The original may not be timeless, but it was pretty groundbreaking for its time. A low budget horror film more terrifying for what it doesn't show than what it does. The next year, a big budget film helmed by another virtually unknown director would do the same thing--Jaws. As to the nature of the sequel, taste varies. Some people considered Silence of the Lambs too disturbing when it came out. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences gave all five major Oscars (including Best Picture). Taste varies. --Douva PS. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (either version) is no more true than Silence of the Lambs or Psycho (there really is just one version). All three films were very loosely based on the same series of events in 1950's Wisconsin.I don't have an M.D. or a law degree. I have bachelor's in kicking ass and taking names. freeflybella 0 #11 July 26, 2004 Me, too! I actually LOVE scary/horror flicks. Went to see this one in the theater when it opened and walked out about 3/4 of the way through. It wasn't so much scary (it was gory, though) as it was full of despair and hopelessness. I wanted to cry - I walked out because had an overwhelming need to get out and look at the blue sky and feel life around me. Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
Cajundude 0 #12 July 26, 2004 Despite what it says before the movie starts the Texas Chainsaw Massacre is 99% fiction. Tobe Hooper, the director of the original, said he got the idea when he was in Montgomery Wards looking at the chainsaws and thought to himself that if he cranked one up that would get people running. Leatherface was based on Ed Gein who was a farmer in Wisconsin. A lot of bodies were discovered at his farm and it was believed he engaged in cannibalism and necrophilia. There has never been a real chainsaw massacre in Texas.
CanuckInUSA 0 #13 July 26, 2004 Thanks for the clarification that it is NOT based on a real event in TX. But that doesn't change that it was a disturbing movie for some of us. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
Cajundude 0 #14 July 26, 2004 Absolutely! That's a pretty fucked up movie. I think the director himself may be a little disturbed as well as the writers to think that shit up.

For some reason I want to say this movie had some crazy sex scenes.
Douva 0 #20 July 26, 2004 QuoteIt wasn't so much scary (it was gory, though) as it was full of despair and hopelessness. Actually, like the first film, the remake is deliberately lacking in gore. Most of the "gore" exists only in the minds of the audience. Marcus Nipsel, the director of the film, was quoted as saying, “If you count all the gore together from both [the original and the remake], you still have less than you have on a CSI episode. So clearly something psychological was at work. That’s where I wanted to settle.” --DouvaI don't have an M.D. or a law degree. I have bachelor's in kicking ass and taking names. ssmi 0 #21 July 26, 2004 The original was filmed in Fentress Tx. And the new one was filmed seven miles down the road from Fentress in Martindale, TX. (Fentress is where Skydive San Marcos is.
fireflytx 0 #22 July 26, 2004 Ok Horror Films LOVE THEM!!!! I old TCM is a great horror classic and is scary as hell, especially when you have no idea what is going on when they put the girl in the freezer. The new one was great as well, I was cringing in my seat watching. The only thing that pissed me off is Harry Knowles stupid head on a plate in the new one. I have a personal vendetta against him since he hates the show I am on here in Austin cause we get more attention than he does, and he is always trying to piss us off every chance he gets check out my show's site www.midnightshadowshow.com"Well behaved women rarely make history"
