Fug it let's catapult people to altitude sans plane right off the deck?

think of the savings! no fuel needed!

Also- no more funneled exits, no more uncomfortable rides to altitude and no more farting-in-the-plane problems.
Step onto the plate, assume the postion and up you go. Separation could be achieved by changing the launch angle slightly.
And the whole runway could be converted into one huge party area.:)

but if you could beef up the landing gear you could always use the catapult.

also, no more bad spots... except the spot you make on the deck when the catapult bungi cords break :o

but how could we make enough money to pay it off? I say we just launch tandems off the catapult all day

>Hmmmm....how high do you think a human body would go off that

Not too far I'm afraid. I made the (probably outrageously inaccurate) calculations a while back and:

If you have a vertical catapult, 400m(~1200ft) high(so you have 400m of "runway" for acceleration), and launch a person off it at an acceleration that wont render you unconscious, and with a "muzzle velocity" that would be about the speed of a relatively good speed skydiver.... You'd have 0 vertical speed at an altitude of 800m(~2400) AGL.

Free hop and pops B|. Probably couldn't put out students that way, though, because where would you put the static line :)

And bigways could turn points on the way up and break when they got to the top.

Since we are only talking about a max of 2400 feet, according to Erno, why don't we say they'll turn points the whole way up, then continue on the way back down until they have a big-way cypres fire. ;)

I'll put in my $450 toward the purchase plus covering yours if you are willing to cover the fuel and maintenance. :o

There's always someone in the crowd that wants to ruine a dream isn't there!!!! :P:D
Dude where skydivers! We have connections. The DZ the place to go if you want something done cos chances are there's someone there who can hook you up :P Not sure how someone would hook you up with a aircraft carrier maintenance crew but hey we'll get to that when we come to it :P:D

Probably not when it's anchored like you'd need for a dz, but definately when it's underway and into the wind.

Why does it need to be anchored. If you can't hit a moving target, downwind, with obstacles, you shouldn't be jumping that canopy anyway right?

has anyone though of forwarding this to Don Kirlin? They guy collects migs... i'm sure he's love to have something to land them on... when we're not jumping onto the damned thing :)

Landing without injury is not necessarily evidence that you didn't fuck up... it just means you got away with it this time
