cdragon 0 #5 July 14, 2004 I've done several flavors of Yoga and found them all to have strengths and weaknesses. If your looking for more of a meditative experience try insight meditation. linny 1 #6 July 14, 2004 yea i've done some bikram. it's suuuuuuuper intense. i like the deep stretching and level of work out, but the fact that the series is ALWAYS the same gets kinda boring. kundalini is definitely a more spiritual experience. there's not really any poses and it's not real physical. it's a lot of breathing and verbal mantras. i feel SOOOOOOOOOo good after every kundalini class. definitely check it out if it's in your area at all.
 ManBird 0 #7 July 14, 2004 Kundalini is fucking stupid. It's closer to so wacked out religion than exercise. Total bullshit. We'll, I guess it isn't bullshit if that's your religion, but it won't give you what you want out of yoga. You basically sit on the ground for a few hours pretending a snake is climbing up your spine. IMO."¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
 linny 1 #8 July 14, 2004 QuoteKundalini is fucking stupid. I studied martial arts for a good twelve years, and generally went with chi-centered styles. Meditation applied to martial arts is different. It has tangible applications. Focusing on sending your hand through bricks and ice is a lot different than making believe that there's a cobra in your belly. Yes, there are animal styles, but there was zero "spiritual" emphasis. It was envisioning and mimicking an animal for the sake of form and tradition. It's an art, not a religion. Kundalini definitely crosses that line."¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
 ManBird 0 #12 July 14, 2004 Quotekundalini is definitely a more spiritual experience. there's not really any poses and it's not real physical. it's a lot of breathing and verbal mantras.Exactly. This is what homeless psychos do. Sit down all day and mumble weird shit. And of course you'll "feel good" after heavy breathing. Hold your breath for 60 seconds to get the same feeling, and you didn't even have to say "raju" 700 times. Here's how you choose a style of yoga: - See how people in the class are dressed, and try to dress according to common garb (shorts and t-shirt, or unitards, or whatever they wear at the studio) - Get video of yourself participating in the class - Video tape yourself, at home, doing what you learned in class If you can show this video to your family and friends without feeling like a retard, then you've picked the right yoga. Edit: Don't take me too seriously on this subject. I don't feel srongly about it and I'm just joking around. I was about to say WTF are you talking about worshipping the serpent. That's what you do on mushrooms, not yoga. Anyways, I don't know the difference between the different kinds of yoga, but the one we do is more excercise (specifically on balance) than sitting and mumbling weird shit..This ad space for sale.
