yardhippie 0 #26 September 25, 2003 I found that you really have to watch then ends of your fabric that are "exposed". My first pair: material in the cuffs frapped around so much it frayed down to the stich, and eventually blew up. My machine has a overlock function so I use that to sew as much together and then roll the exposed end of the fabric under and double stich it from the outside. much more industrial but a bit longer to do. But I aint had nuthin blow up latley...Goddam dirty hippies piss me off! ~GFD "What do I get for closing your rig?" ~ me "Anything you want." ~ female skydiver Mohoso Rodriguez #

flyangel2 2 #30 September 25, 2003 My nylon jumpsuit was coming unraveled. You know nylon, you can't sew it that easy, once it starts that. When you do, if you don't have enough fabric to tuck under, or do a french seam on, it will just ravel more. I found some great stuff. Material glue. Worked great and I've washed the jumpsuit about five times now. Oh, found it at Hobby Lobby.May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. kitof1976 0 #33 September 25, 2003 Hey Sewing is a great skill!!! I almost fell on my ass when I found out how much customs suit cost So I decided to make some just the way I want them. The sewing part is easy. What really is a biotch is the pattern drawing... Once everything is cut and mesured the sewing is a breeze. I wish I had a serger though for overlock stiches... That's definitely the best was to stop the fraying. The machine I used to make these pants was the base model from Wall mart with really not that many stitches. I have put about 20 jumps on my pants and they work great!!! "We see the world just the way we are...
hookitt 1 #34 September 25, 2003 All right... now you guys are pissing me off. I have a Double needle machine with a binding tape attachment and a seriously kick ass pfaff 238 zigzag machine and ya'll are making some really cool stuff and I'm... well... I"m not. (cept some risers and stuff) Ok, you didn't really piss me off, but ya did motivate me. Come monday I'm off to the Fabric store... yardhippie 0 #35 September 25, 2003 Looks like youve got a great pattern going there. Although you may have made the bells (what else do ya call em?) to short. my first pair was too short. I like mine to start at about the knee. dont know why... just asthetics I sppose. the stich looks good to me, but you see the frayed ege on your red material (check attach) is where I had my problems. Ill take that and roll it over so that is no loger "exposed". Disclaimer: i am by no means qualified to coach, teach, or advise on sewing. Im just aspiring to grandure. I have no training on said subject, and mostly just fake my way through it! Chute 0 #36 September 25, 2003 OK this might be a stupid question but here it goes. Does anyone know where to get patterns for pants tops or flysuits?Bottomless Beers and Blue Skies! * Brother_Brian * D.S.W.F.S.B. #
yardhippie 0 #37 September 25, 2003 nope... not really. I just look at what I want something to look like and just do my best to fake my way through it. Or if its really complicated I will dissassemble an old one, making changes in my pattern to correct the things I didnt like. But they may be out there. Hookitt: you should be jelous... I got no attachments. but its a lot of work. and I mess up alot. My rigger can just look at ya a build it to fit, close. but thats after years of building. takes time I spose. and dont freak when you see how much cordura is! yardhippie 0 #40 September 26, 2003 good form. but me thinks the bells are too small. and maybe too short. are they done, w/ a way to fasten to your ankles (velcro, bungee, etc) cuz that takes up a lot of material. sweet colors though.Goddam dirty hippies piss me off! ~GFD "What do I get for closing your rig?" ~ me "Anything you want." ~ female skydiver Mohoso Rodriguez #
turtlespeed 221 #41 September 26, 2003 No, they're not quite done yet. I was thinking about a belt. I have some of the material tucked in under the bells for now. I am also not quite sure how to do the crotch. Its pretty baggy on me, and I'm not the tallest guy in the world. 5'8"...i just need to slow down a little.I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun
yardhippie 0 #42 September 26, 2003 hell, im only 6'0". and the crotch is the hardes part to figure out. best suggestion: velcro. and the belt: fold over the top of your material and put in a lenght of nylon strap, then you can buy any type of quck connct and just about any fabric store.Goddam dirty hippies piss me off! ~GFD "What do I get for closing your rig?" ~ me "Anything you want." ~ female skydiver Mohoso Rodriguez #
AggieDave 6 #43 September 26, 2003 Clint, Ask me this weekend or sometime to show you the belt I made for my "tandem pants." Its very simple and very quick to make and sew. It's also very cheap to make and very tough.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

I find one that will do the job. A hot knife will stop the fraying. SparkyMy idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
flyangel2 2 #46 September 26, 2003 When I get to Perris I'll show you what I'm taking about. I don't think a hot knife would have worked for what I needed. The nylon had come unraveled causing the seams to give way. Since the nylon was unraveled, there wasn't any thing to re-sew the seam with. The glue worked great. But, there are a few areas on the jumpsuit where the seams could use some reinforcing, so I will take you up on your offer Since I'll be super floating on the dives, I'll have to wear my beautiful hot pink jumpsuit, so you can hang on to the other suit to fix it. Thanks, you're a doll. (we need a kissing face) BTW, don't forget my present.May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. Whooohooo! I already have the belt in there. I double folded it and will put a triple strait stitch to secure it really well. Edited to say: Dave, I think I modeled the belt after your pants.
