When are the women's big ways again?

I don't think we'll be doing Jump for the Cause till 2005.
Not to worry, you will be so informed when they are going to happen.

:)
Obviously the big names will be on camera for those jumps, so let me know ahead of time and I'll make sure I'm there (hopefully) and set up for ground to air shots. :)

The surger is a big deal.

My wife now has a surger (spelling?) and an industrial sewing machine. She did real well last year making freefly suits and pants and it's a ton cheaper to make our own (and everything is custom). Paid off both machine.

A cheaper alternative to Supplex is light demin. It feels heavier, but it breaths better. Tough too. She got cordura two weeks ago and made me a weight belt. (and the weights). There is a ton you can do.

(military riggers thread is cheap and strong, 2 inch velcro for the cuffs)

I should learn to sew, it's helping us a ton. Also, our daughter is very skinny and tall for her age and this means either expensive clothes or normal clothes with at-home mods.

Noice!

The machine in the bacvkgfround of the last pic has a serger, but it's not an industrial machine. I did find out that what is used commonly for stuff is called "Trigger". Is that the same material that I should be looking for?

I agree to an earlier post, velcro would be better on the fly. But I am going to put in a zippered pocket on the thigh of one of the legs, and I want to put a coupla hook knife pockets on the legs as well as the waist. Any suggestions to these pockets would be more than welcomed.

(side note: ooh look, see I can post a serious thread too, ya'll just didn't think so:P)

Hook knife pockets.

Ever see the one I did for my FF suit? You know how I did it? I went to the DZ, bought a Jack the Ripper, took the hook knife out of the sleeve, sewed the sleeve to the suit, put the knife back in. Viola, insta hook knife.B|

Yeah, but remember the guy on the 60 ways in a homemade jumpsuit? If you're going to make an RW jumpsuit, give it some grippers that some one can actually take a grip on.

Mike, I don't think you have to worry about pissing anyone off on the jumps next weekend. Just keep that darn whistle out of your mouth. :P

Thanks Dave, I thought I replied to this already, but I guess not.
I sometimes miss the most obvious solutions....duh!

I should be done in time to use it tomorrow, and the weather looks great.

I purchased some of the seam stuff I read about earlier, is that better than a serge stitch?

So, it was my first try.
I am complete with a version of FF pants that i can use. But they are kinda like a moped...the'll be fun to fly, but don't let your friends see you on one.

All n all, not to bad considering. just don't laugh to hard when you see them...
Remember, too, if it's your first try, you get what you pay for.:P

Oh sorry, I thought you were the one who jumped with the whistle.

Noone took a picture of me with them on that I know of.

Update: After minimal fraying, and some examination of other FF pants and suits, I am going to cut off the legs and re do them. I need more of a pleat in the "bell" as opposed to just 2 taper cuts. I also want to redo the velcro system I did. I was surprised how hard it was to keep the material and the stiches strait as it was going thru the machine. Any hints on how to keep them strait would be nice. Thanks.

I am now working on my first pair of other peoples FF pants.

I'll be posting pics as soon as I get something done.

Best thing for keeping the stiches straight is dont get in a hurry, thats where I always mess up.
as far as the "bells of the legs, dont be afraid to modify what you have. that was how I finally got my pattern right. Just split the seams to where you think it should be and add material.
I dont use velcro on my cuffs. I sew a buttonhole in to where the hem will be and make sure the hem is hollow all the way around, then run a small bungee and leave the 2 ends exposed. buy a little spring clamp and you have adjustable cuffs. thats just how I do it cuz having to pleat all that damn material for velcro pisses me off.

youve heard of bell bottoms right?

well you "bell" freefly pants for extra drag, control, etc. as needed for weight, body shape, desired speed etc.
