lemonjelly 0 #1 July 3, 2004 Ok, so I got hit with filling in Tax returns from year 98/99 to present. Filled them all in, recieved a letter today. Amended calculations: 2000/2001: £950 overpaid 2001/2002: £1500 overpaid Does this mean that they owe ME, or do I owe THEM. Help: If they owe me, I'll hassle them, If I owe them.... guess what I'll do. DO I CELEBRATE? DO I GO TO GROUND?************************************************* RED LIGHTS & OFF LANDINGS ARE JUST MY THANG http://www.redlightrob.co.uk

miked10270 0 #3 July 3, 2004 Hi Jelly, what detail you've given doesn't make it clear. How about posting the whole text of the letter, or scanning them in. That said, UK tax collection usually assures overpayment (depending on what you do for a living and how your tax is paid). More info please, Mike. lemonjelly 0 #4 July 3, 2004 cheers Unfortunately, I'm at work! Don't have said correspondence with me. If I have overpaid them, do I need to claim it or will they pay me automatically?************************************************* RED LIGHTS & OFF LANDINGS ARE JUST MY THANG http://www.redlightrob.co.uk
miked10270 0 #5 July 3, 2004 OK. How is your tax paid? Does your employer automatically deduct it from your pay, or are you self-employed and use an accountant to calculate your tax? The best way forward is for you to post whenyou get home. Mike. Taking the piss out of the FrenchAmericans since before it was fashionable. lemonjelly 0 #6 July 3, 2004 I closed my limited company in 2000. IR kept sending me tax return forms, although I was P.A.Y.E since then. I was on emergency tax for a while, didn't fil in the forms . They calculated my tax, I threw the kletters in the bin.. are you with me I filled the return for 03/04 and they sent me a letter stating that they would,t be sending me any more tax return forms as I was P.A.Y.E So, I went to tax office to sort out the outstanding forms. The guy there filled them all in for me. I think it's them that owe me. I'm back at work tomorrow afternoon so will scan and post in this thread. Hopefully you will be around then. Cheers for your attention.************************************************* RED LIGHTS & OFF LANDINGS ARE JUST MY THANG http://www.redlightrob.co.uk
gerrcoin 0 #7 July 3, 2004 overpaid!!The tax office don't pay you anything normally, ergo it's you that has paid too much and they now owe you back. Hassle them for it, you can be damn sure that they would come screaming for it if it was the other way around.
samhussey 0 #8 July 4, 2004 It means you got a big fat cheque coming your way! Same happened to me year before last, they sent it in 2 separate cheques, one for each year I overpaid, with no hassle whatsoever.

skytash 0 #11 July 4, 2004 It may not come as a cheque if you gave them your bank details on the tax returns. It will show up in your account from S.A. Alternatively if you are currently employed and paying PAYE they may just adjust your tax code, they prefer doing it that way these days as it makes sure the money goes to the NI number that overpaid. tashDon't ever save anything for a special occasion.
