Recommended Posts

if they keep putting the WSOP (world series of poker) on ESPN Why the hell can't they put some skydive competitions on?

they are alot of swoop and big way events etc...why can't we get skydiving which IS an actual sport on ESPN but they'll put a bunch of con artist, drunk cigar smoking poker players on while they sit on their fat asses getting rich ( or loosing big)

(dont get me wrong I dont mind pplaying poker every so often but if I pianted a pretty picture of it it wouldnt seem as good of a rant)

Because practically everybody tuning into ESPN has the ability to start practicing poker, right now, for almost no money, and they might actually be able to get good at it. The audience can connect with that. The audience can't connect with skydiving, and the vast majoirty of them can't or won't spend the money that it takes to get started in the sport (let's say $4000 for an A license and a good rig), let alone the thousands of jumps that it takes to be competitive.

I love WSOP. I watch it whenever I can. Honestly, it would not be half as good without the little cameras that show the hands of the players. It gives some insight into the poker players - their thoughts, strategies and actions. People can easily get engrossed in that and ask themselves the following questions:

1) Would I bluff?
2) Would I fold?
3) Would I check or raise?
4) Would I call?
5) How would I do this differently if it were Ivey or Ferguson across from me, instead of Moneymaker?

Now, if ESPN went on and did some things about the pro swoop tour, that would be cool. But, people would want to see some serious chow to keep them interested.

Aerial photography of 4-way RW or CRW really cannot give people the sense of what is happening. The adrenaline rush, the precision. In sum, the pro's simply make RW and freefly look too easy for the public to marvel at their skills.

Eveyone knows how hard poker is. "Would you have the balls to raise $200k with a pair of 8's waiting for the river?" "Would you have the balls to call a raise of $200k waiting for the river card with a pair of Kings in your hand and an Ace on the board?"

That's something people can gravitate towards. THAT is what makes WSOP so intriguing - those cats DO!

TV, maybe with the exception of swooping or made-for-tv-but-deadly skysurfing, just doesn't capture that spirit in whuffos.

Exactly - Moneymaker was an unknown last year, came in with the $40 entry fee and walked away a champion with a multi-million purse (with one of the most amazing bluffs against a former champ).

I cant believe some of the complete SHIT they put on ESPN nowendays.

I keep thinking to myself that its another incident of MTV'ism. Start out great with everything that people want, and then all of a sudden start playing fucked up music and shows that only cater to the minority. If I see one more video with some overweight black wannabe gangster flashing all of his wannabe (rented for the video) BLING BLING, and nasty fat assed bitches, its gonna be too fuckin early.

Did ya know DMX just got busted for gun possession, drug possession and under the influence? What a F'ing loser. I just dont understand how irresponsible you can be when your rollin in the dough. Just no need, ya dig?

ESPN's days are numbered. And so are rap's.

Because the WSOP appeals to a lot of fat, lard-assed lazy shitheads who fill themselves full of beer and cheetos in front of the t.v. who would prefer to never think again that there is an active world out there with fun things to achieve if you work at them. What could be more appealing to a fat, lazy shitstain than the fantasy of using deceit to win a bunch of money from other people while sitting on one's ass with a net negative calorie burn? There are far more people like this in this counry than there are skydivers, or even people interested in skydiving. It's sad, but true. It may also be why the government hasn't put its filthy footprints ALL over skydiving as yet.

Money. It's all about money. And I'm not talking about the money on the poker table; I'm talking about advertising dollars. Ratings (which bring in maximum advertising spend) are the only reason anything is on TV. Find the advertisers to support a skydiving show and you will see it on TV - I promise. :)

when did the national spelling bee become a sport??

When they began browsing this website and realized how difficult it is for many people.

Is swooping that interesting for someone who doesn't skydive? Those guys really make it look easy. It may as well be a long jump contest for all the public knows. Freeflying? Cool looking but it'd get old fast. RW? As my girlfriend said last night, "What's so fun about that? They hold hands and then switch who is holding hands." "No," I said, "wait until they do-see-do their partner..."
"I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

I agree . Jose said it like I would. Thanks Jose. Glad i'm not the only one who thinks like that.
Fuck tv and all the pathetic crap on it ! And it wouldn't hurt to keep skydiving a secret at least until i'm done jumping.
We've posted about this before.... Don't let the whuffos or gov't ruin our sport. It's doing just fine. It's readily available to those with the passion to want to fly. Let the rest of the world go play golf and poker.

This came up while sitting around manifest this weekend. Conclusions:

1)The fact that anyone can play golf, and that many hundreds of thousands have played golf (or poker etc) means they understand what is going on and can identify better with those activities. A nonskydiver doesn't know the effort or feelings involved.

2)All it would take is someone biffing in before a huge crowd, and sponsors would drop out fast.

Ya know two things here. I like poker so I guess I'll be lumped in with all of the shitstains that you have so happily put in a category. I guess since everybody doesn't like what you do they are "fat, lard-assed lazy shitheads."
And two, for a name like peacefuljeffrey you seem a little bitter.
