prepaid legal

Recommended Posts

Has anyone used prepaid legal for anything? I am thinking about it for legal advice over my child support and changing venue from AZ to CA. Also, for a will and they offer Identy Theft watch, I am not exactly sure what all that entails but they do give you all three credit reports each month for you to go over and fix, and see if there are any thefts and if so they do all the legal action to take care of those.

I have not used them personally. (And as a disclaimer, I do work for a law firm.:o But I'm hardly pimping their services.)

There have been some negative stories floating around about Prepaid Legal. And not just from my coworkers. Often, the attorneys that sign into the plan are those that can't do well on their own without it. It provides a financial safety net for them, but gives them the incentive to spend as little time and care on your work as possible.

Many states have laws that entitle you to a free copy of your credit report every year. I would question the value and practicality of going over it monthly.

Make sure you understand what they will and won't do for you. Many of the one's I've heard of provide very limited and simple services.

They seem to be OK if you need them to go over paperwork or simple things like that. Anything much more involved forget it. There is actually some fineprint in their paperwork stating that they DON'T do family law like CHILD SUPPORT or CUSTODY!

I was actually looking at them for the same reason but they can't do anything. Also, Identity theft is really quite uncommon. I think at last reported it was under 3%. Also there are a few free credit reporting sites that I've used that work just fine. I suggest skipping the monthly fees from PPL.

I do know a few people who sell PPL and they are completely convinced that everyone should have it "just in case" but to me its just more $ that I could be using for many other things! (Like jump tickets!) Oh and I do have copies of their emails and paperwork if you want to know anything more about them without being pressured to buy from a sales person.

Just my opinion.

Incorrect again...

Pre-PAid Legal retains AV rated firms for it's members.. "Martindale Hubble Index". Based on the member count in each state the "main firm" in each state gets a "RATHER LARGE" retainer to TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF THE CLIENTS..

you can check for identity theft on your own. just write to the credit bureaus for copies of your credit reports and look them over yourself. if there's anything wacky, call the phone numbers, make a police report, and get it resolved.

I got over $9000 of credit fraud off my record with no problem, no involvement from lawyers or anything. All I had to do is show the credit bureau, and the lender in question utility bills that showed me living at a different address. Wasn't a big problem at all, and the whole situation was resolved within a few months.

That is your "credit"

If someone steals your social security and commits a crime your credit reports are pointless..

Good job getting your stuff fixed.. I supposedly purchased a home in 1935.. It took me 6 months to get it cleared from the 3 bureaus EVEN THOUGH I was born in 1975... Ridiculous..

Yeah, I could have copied all of that right from my reps site too. Bottom line is that when I asked her about geting help with child support and custody she couldn't help me.

My kids are what is important. The rest of that stuff sounds nice but not what I'm looking for and most likely will never be used. That sounds like the same situation for freeflygoddess.

I'm quite familiar with MLM and since your name is at the top of that website you're the one making the $ from your own usage and off each person who signs up with it. Not trying to hurt your business but its just not for everyone. Like I said...its my opinion.

When you asked WHO?? Specifically?

If you have children and no will you are playing a dangerous game.. You die and your kids go into foster care.. You drive right? You have signed "a" document without reading ALL the fine print right? You have been in a situation where a letter or phone call from an attorney might have gotten results that you couldn't right? You've been in a situation that had talking to an attorney not been a monetary decision you would have phoned an attorney right? You are at risk of getting sued right? Audited by the IRS?

80% of the European population has a Pre-Paid Legal plan already. You are 3 times more likely to be sued than put in the hospital.. You could have at one time or another used EVERY part of the plan.. It isn't a matter of IF you need it it's WHEN.

You mock a plan 80% of europeans have yet you probably pay twice as much for cable tv and a cell phone.. And you say you care for your kids.. What happens if mommy is sued and has to come up with a 10,000 retainer? a $25 a month ppl plan could have prevented that.

Do you know how MLM was started? What are the advantages vs disadvantages? Do you know MLM is tought in major universities. Zig Zigglar owns an MLM company. He has more credibility and accomplishment in the last year of his life than most of us will ever see..

I don't remember asking if it was for you? You weren't asked yet choose to take a stab at MLM businesses anyways?

You work for an employer don't you? What is the first place you go when you start a new job? HUMAN RESOURCES.. That's right you are a human resource.. Expendable.. Making someone else money in a corporate MLM.

The person I spoke to's name will remain with me. This is still a public forum and I won't let you or anyone else drag her into this rediculous debate.

Most of what you are saying is all but quoted right from the brouchures I got from the rep I spoke to. Very nice to hear abut still does not help the main issue I was looking for help with.

Also please don't assume that because you are a part of this company that you are the only one who knows how MLM works. I will not name drop but I have met and become friends with some of the top people in MLM. Did I say it was bad? Or good? Neither, just that I know and understand it. You actually know very little about me to go making assumptions that you know more about anything than anyone else on this board.

I will not sit and debate with you on this. You are speaking defensivly because you take part in this business. You are obviously going to post and PM me to death. The original poster asked for experiences with PPL and I have posted mine. As much as you may not like it, No, I will not remove it.

You are more than welcome to post your experience stating how much you like the company and give a productive answer but I really do not appreciate the remarks you are aiming toward me.

I really do not care if we become "mortal enemies" as you say. I did not post here to become your friend or enemy. If you want to act so childishly and take it that way, so be it. Not everyone will agree with you or be bullied into doing so.

I've never said such a thing.. Your lack of specifics and knowledge towards what you are speaking about speaks for itself.

I have lots of "mortal enemies" as you say.. You can simply be added to the long but distinguished list..

You buying something.. Not knowing how it works and then speaking negatively about it smells of ignorance.. I do not like ignorant people.. Maybe I am being an asshole about this.. What in the world about your assumptive remarks could have sparked such a response?

Good luck.. Hopefull you don't get sued anytime soon..

This thread was not about copying and pasting articles from websites. I was trying to retain its original meaning and keep it from turning into what it has become.

My lack of specifics is again because this was not your thread to take over to debate about your company. You still know little about my knowledge or extent of it. If you wanted to know the specifics of my experience because you were worried about your credability, you could have asked in a PM in an adult/professional manner instead of the very unprofessional (to put it lightly) manner you took.

Again, if you wanted to add your opinion you could have. Instead you decided to bash the opinions and experiences of the other people posting here. They are our opinions and we will post them whether you agree or not.

I won't bother replying to the rest of your childish comments. Although I must say that I do agree with at least one of your thoughts. ;)

This is a lie. You are making false statements about ppl.. You apparently can't read.. It is covered under the 25% member discount..

Quote

Also, Identity theft is really quite uncommon.

You obviously didn't research before you made this statement.. Again an assumption used to put down ppl.

but to me its just more $ that I could be using for many other things!

Fair enough. Some people actually care about their family having legal coverage.

Again this is your fault for not understanding the membership and the associate's fault that sold it to you for not educating you on how to use it. Ultimately it's your responsibility to know what you are getting when you sign the dotted line. You just didn't.

most likely will never be used.

Maybe.. Maybe not.. For your sake hopefully not..

In no way did her words match your statement.. Doesn't sound AT ALL like what she said.. She expressed interest in something she did her homework on.. You didn't do your homework. So you decided to rain on her parade and anyone else in here that believes in or sells the membership.

Obviously. That's how sales has worked for quiet some time.. Someone sells something and they get paid..

No one mentioned ANYTHING about business here.. YOU DECIDED to make it about that by your comments. You were being a covert smart ass taking a punch at pre-paid legal.

Your allowed to disagree.. Just admit their was an agenda behind your comments.. I see it clearly..

wow....I am utterly speachless...

However, I must say, that I went a little further, and found out what firm they use for the state of Arizona and Cali. I went as far as to call those firms and explain somewhat of what I was wanting, well just the custody and child support, and asked for a price....A $1800 retainer + $300/hr in Phoenix and in Cali they wanted $150 for a consultation visit before letting me know prices...well then I called the ppl people and asked what the prices were there. The $26 a month covers unlimited calls to the attorney, over anything and also he would make phone calls to my ex's attorny, and also read over and explain all the ppwk. If I need him to go to court for me the charge for the same firm in phoenix I called and talked to would be $125/hr....holy crap...is that worth it? Oh yes yes it is...and why? For one thing it is a huge firm and another thing no retainer and besides I have good reason to have my ex pay for my attorney costs, because he does this every time I am in a finacial bind, in order to pervent me from doing (movine in this case) what I need to do (go to medical school). On top of all of this I am able to establish a much needed in depth Will that would cost me over $500 to do, and being that I useually jump every weekend I better have one. Not only that but I do drive everyday, and to me that is way scarier than jumping.

It is quite interesting to see how this thread has “cleaned up” as of this morning. Deleting posts to hide your rude & childish comments may make you feel better but I already know they were there. Threatening and insulting me, calling Payback462 names, among other things…was completely uncalled for and not the behavior I expect to find on these forums.

I never said I don’t like PPL or think poorly of the company. (Just one particular rep now.) You continuing to insult people on this board has turned what could have been a learning experience into a childish dirt throwing match. If you can’t deal with people having different opinions then you, that is your problem. If you are so paranoid that you think an opinion that differs from your what you believe is a slam against you then you will have many battles in life. I feel bad for any wuffo you meet who thinks skydiving is stupid or a waste of $. Insulting others will not change their views or opinions.

How odd that you are asking about PrePaid Legal becasue on another board I frequent.. someone was talking about it.

Anyways, they are decent I spose. I know 2 people who work for them and they tried to get me to join too, but it's a total pyramid dealy and that's just not my thing. Aside from the fact that they wanted almost $300 to 'join'. They make really good money, and I've heard their services are decent but not fabulous.

Good luck. :)
