livendive 8 #31 June 29, 2004 Quote Bet you can Look at it this way You're flying toward 6-way base on an slow, smooth 30-way. You're 25th. You don't look at your slot, you open your gaze to take in the whole (3-D) picture. Now ... Open your gaze through the pic don't focus relax Don't be goal oriented (tell him, girls ) Don't look for the image. Stare through it at allow it to form. Once you get it, it's amazing. I've spent entirely too much time staring at these things without ever seeing them. I'm guessing it's because I have a lazy eye and do most of my "looking" through my other eye. Nah, I could never see those things, and they're no different online. hope they were cool 1-Saturn 2-Shark 3-Spring 6-Helicopter Trying saving the pics, open them and enlarge them to fill the screen. Knowing what they are will not help. If you try to focus on the 'hidden' image, it will pretty much keep you from seeing it. Once you see them, it's hard not to see them. While keeping your gaze on the pic, stand up, back up from the computer and move around the room. Tips for Viewing 3-D Stereograms 1. Pick a spot on the picture (the middle seems to work best) and just stare at it. 2. Allow your eyes to relax, don't just stare AT the image, try to stare THROUGH it. You'll notice your eyes will go slightly out of focus. This is normal. 3. Keep staring, don't give up, once you begin to see the first image, it gets much easier. 4. If you are still having trouble viewing the stereograms, please see: http://www.eyetricks.com/stereograms/stereowhy.htm If you enjoy stereograms, here are some more to play with: http://www.eyetricks.com/3dstereo.htm http://www.ccc.nottingham.ac.uk/~etzpc/gif.html Have fun! freakflyer9999 1 #41 June 29, 2004 I used to have software that would take a picture and convert it to a stereogram. I have no idea where I got it from. Does anyone know where I can find a freeware program that does this?
AirCav 0 #42 June 29, 2004 Your right, crossing my eyes the images came in quick but made them inverted (Concave) going into the page. Taking my time and doing it your way the images were coming out of the page and were easy to identify. Now I can see both a positive and negative. opurt 0 #44 June 30, 2004 Holy guacamole! This is the first time EVER that I've been able to see one of these things! I seem to recall that the first one of these I saw (and wasn't able to resolve) was in the late 80's! Thanks very much to crwmike and mikeJD for their hints. I combined their hints in order to see this. This is a fricken revelation. Wow wow wow. So here's what I did: 1) Unfocused my eyes and tried to look through and beyond the pic. Got that unfocused "thousand yard stare". I physically relaxed my body. Just let my eyes relax. This by itself didn't work. 2) Then, I pretended there was a piece of glass on top of the image and that there was a reflection in the glass. I started to pull my focus back from the thousand-yard stare and try to see the reflection on that imaginary glass over the image. As I tried that a few times, the image started to separate. I never pulled all the way back to full, regular focus. I continued focusing in the manner I already was, and eventually - the image went 3-D and I saw what was there. I continued focusing in this new manner and eventually the image became crystal clear. I could soon hold that focus with little difficulty. There was a little more focus on the periphery of the objects but still no significant focus outside the image. It seems as though there's a focusing muscle there that I've never controlled in this particular fashion. I liken it to riding a bike - at first, it was inconceivable that I could balance it - then suddenly, both training wheels are off the ground. I got the muscle control and balancing sense to be able to balance the bike as I pleased. Same thing with this focusing muscle and the ability to see these stereograms. Another note - don't get too close to the image. Fifteen to twenty-four inches is how far my face was from the monitor. Also, the magic in seeing it for the first time seems to lie in slowly going from full unfocused thousand yard stare to maybe 50 to 75 percent unfocused and using the imaginary glass with the reflection. Man, I am delighted and deeply satisfied. It's been well over a decade since the first time I saw one of these things. Rock and roll - opurt
ifics 0 #45 June 30, 2004 It took me about a minuet to get the first one, had to get my face close to the screen. Once you get it (eyes got all blurry and then BLAM, picture) At first I could only see it for a second, then I blinked and could look all around while still seeing it.. Hmm, been so long since I have seen one of these I forgot how cool they are! Thx!!
