I'll bring my climbing harness and gear

That catwalk is a lot higher then where I took you when you visited me. Do you have the balls to do this?;)

I've rappelled off of a 110' bridge several times with no probs. Is that good enough.;)

Hey convention goers...
Just wondering what all there is to do at the WFFC if you aren't able to jump. I don't have my A yet, but I still plan on going. I might even hafta go alone if I can't find anyone to take. Will I still have as much fun as I plan on even though I won't be able to meet other jumpers in the air?
Sarah

Windwatcher, first thing you gotta do is GET INTO THE CONVENTION. With fewer than fifty jumps there are only two ways to do this. ONE, register as a 'student' skydiver and pay the cost of the student entry. You will get a 'student' band, and be allowed to jump with the instructors til you get to your 50 mark. TWO, register as a 'friend of a skydiver' (which means you gotta have somebody you KNOW when you register) This will NOT give you a 'skydiving' wrist band and you will NOT be allowed to jump. I would suggest that if you are going to use this method, you either arrive with a skydiver, or have a cell phone number on hand, so that you can call someone on the grounds to come and vouch for you. I have seen long delays at registration when people show up at registration and don't know the drill.

YES< VOLUNTEER! We need people to greet people in registration, help sign up people in the tandem area, I am in the PR area, and use lots of skydivers for carting around media types. We have shuttles taking skydivers from out landings, and the tandem area back to the manifest and packing areas. We need people to help shuttle folks to the showers! Check out the 'volunteer registration' on the website! When you get to the convention, look me up, I have a real name, it's Beth.

Can I go? I heard that you need to have at least 50 jumps to go, or be invited by someone with 50 jumps. Is this true? I only have 3 jumps. And haven't jumped in a year. I guess me and my wife packing the tent, BBQ, and coolers in the car and coming out for weekend isn't a good idea? Do a tandem or two, watch some awesome flying, and plenty of partying! Sounds great! That is, if it's not invite only. [:/]

Yes...you can go. You must be a skydiver or a guest of a skydiver. If you've got your 3 jumps, I'm assuming you have your USPA (current) card, and your logbook. Take yourself to the registration tent, you'll register as a student which basically means you can't jump without an AFF instructor. Then, you're good to go.

I was in the hangar last year, but I missed the whole thing. Sleeping in the front seat of a car. It was happening during my regular 8-10am nappy time.
This could be worth being awake for. :D

What is the statistic? The percentage of stupid stuff that occurs on weather days? ;)

I agree with sunshine...rent a golf cart...it opens up a whole new world:P

just dont drive it thru the corn after kidnapping someone young enuff to be your son and slam into concrete things and wreck the front wheel and lose the bumper, and then proceed to blame it on a friend when you bring it back to the person who rented it.

not that youd do that now would you????????

Just be courteous to the neighbors and don't go destroying corn. While it may seem fun, you're damaging the farmers crop and, well, if you got chased in your golfcart by a combine and a shotgun, you'd definately deserve it...

I HAD been hoping to go to WFFC for my first time this year to jump my little buns off. Then, I broke my left ankle and decided not to go at all because it may be torture to watch everyone having fun. However, I recently read that volunteers may be needed. That renewed/sparked new interest...

I was wondering what you all think about me going, anyway, and volunteering. My cast MAY be taken off right before or even the same weekend that I would be going to WFFC, or I may still have it on until just afterwards. I would be flying out from Southern California and (hopefully) staying in a nearby hotel, but it would only be for a long weekend.

I have a wheelchair, but I don't use it as much as I should (damned pride & crutches!) I was worried that I may have a hard time getting around as WFFC seems like a HUGE event. However, I am pretty good on crutches...I was able to go up the wind tunnel stairs at Perris completely by myself (I was alone) at night on crutches the same day that I broke my ankle. (Dumb, I know.)

Anyway, these would be my goals for going to WFFC with a broken left ankle:
* volunteer/help with the event in any way that I can (registration or shuttling people, perhaps?)
* Scope out the event and see what it will be like for when I CAN jump next year
* Look at gear and take advantage of any special discounts...I need to buy a custom rig of my own...
* Perhaps do a tandem if my ankle is out of a cast (and ONLY if considered safe enough to do in these conditions)
* Take observation rides on specialty aircraft (YAY!)
* Listen to many seminars
* Take beautiful pictures which I normally wouldn't be able to do if busy jumping
* Observe big formation jumps, watch dirtdives, watch landings, etc.
* Meet more skydivers & have fun!

So, would it be better to go and volunteer OR take it easy and wait until next year to jump at WFFC? (I will not be offended if I am given the advice to stay at home.:$)

Any/all advice would be appreciated. :)

Damn I want to go (again) also, won't be able to jump by then either. And just a few days would be all that i could stand.... not being able to jump. I haven't had a chance to think about it , but i like the way you think. Might see you there and we can split a golf cart :) I'm thinking fighter jet ride if possible.Hmmmm How much for a 5 minute ride in a Mig ?

You and I could begin a grouded/handicapped section...;) Anyone else grounded who wants to go to WFFC and NOT jump with Cocheese and myself? Chuteless? Anyone?
