Have you ever lost the perfect situation?

Recommended Posts

Everybody has gone through this, but when it happens to you, it just all sucks. No, this isn't a pity-party for me. It's more of a discussion about when everything is so perfect...job, social life, love life, family life, finances, etc, but then it all goes to absolute crap. Everybody says that just hang on, and this too shall pass. Life is what you make of it. Blah blah blah blah.

Alcohol seems to be the easiest solution. But, it's temporary, and it can just cause more problems than it helps. Some people say to go and skydive. Once again, that's short term, and it doesn't really solve anything.

It's much easier to enjoy life when everything goes your way. How do people get it so that everything goes their way?

the thing I need to keep telling myself is that there must be bad times in my life so I'll know and appreciate the good times.

Nobody does, and nobody can. And those times when everything is perfect are instantaneous.

You know, had things gone my way, I wouldn't be the happiest man on the face of the earth right now. Most things in your life do not work out. 99 percent of the time, it doesn't go the way you had hoped.

Nothing is perfect. And crap is not perfectly awful. Crap just makes you appreciate the good more..

Stagnancy = Death

There are about a THOUSAND cliches that will echo the equation above and tell you how to get through the tough times, but the one from Fight Club is my fav:

"It is only once we have lost everything that we are free to do anything".

Consider this a fork in the road... an opportunity to take "the road less travelled" (thanks, Mr. Frost). It's hard to forget what you've lost, but try to concentrate on all the doors that have opened rather than the ones that have closed.

It doesn't have to be temporary. I'm living proof ;)

Val-I know your pain though. My story is wayyyy to long. but rest in the fact that I must have crapped in some cosmic karma wheatie bowl, cuz I sure am gettin the repcussions. [:/]B|
Oh and tell all those who say it can only get better, or just ride it out, some other such cliche. To bite you! Gawd Im sore tired of hearing that.:D

That's the problem. Nothing is opening. I've used this job sucking thing to go and look for new and exciting jobs. I've only received ding letters (just got another fun one yesterday.) I really really really hate my job right now. I do nothing. I hate it. A year ago, it was the perfect job. I was soooooooo incredibly happy here. I woke up thinking, "Oh! I'm going to work! La de da!"

Then, my coworker tells me that he's meeting with a recruiter next week in Toronto, and apparently this recruiter has many job opportunities for him. This is my coworker who is exactly like me. We talk ALL the time. I really don't want him to leave.

And even my brother was acting like a jerk yesterday. [:/] (He actually just called to apologize.)

I know that life sucks sometimes. But, I think back to a year ago, and my life was about perfect. I think back to two years ago, and my life was perfect. A year ago, I was exactly where I wanted to be career-wise. My career was perfect. I have zero satisfaction in my meaningless job anymore. It makes that 40 hours a week pretty crappy.

Sorry to bitch. That time of the month does that sort of thing! :D But, sometimes life sucks. Fine, so I'm lucky that I do have a job and that I do have a roof over my head. But, when you go from having everything you want to nothing you want, it sucks!!! Maybe a new exciting job will come my way, but that's not a guarantee. My next boss may suck (like my last boss). They might not be as laid back. They might have annoying work.

Sigh...I never thought that hating a job could affect you so much.

just remeber, we get to skydive, and what a blessing that is, there are times I hate my Job too, but every weekend I leave my problems at the Grand caravans door, sure they are still there when we exit, but the do look a lot smaller from up there...hoping to help turn that frown upside down.B|

Ahh, what a wonderful world.

I try to do that, but I can unfortunately remember how much better things were when I wasn't able to skydive as much because I was broke.

Ehhh...it's okay! I'm not feeling bad or anything like that. Life sucks right now, and I just have to try to figure out what I used to do to make myself happy....besides alcohol. I was able to make myself happy while having a crappy bookstore job and making no money. I should be able to while having a crappy insurance job and making money, right?

Hey lady. I understand 100% what you're going through!!
All I felt was that everyone that wanted to give me some piece of sunshine crap could go shove it up where the sun don't shine;).

it's very rough, but life I think just goes through stages. Sometimes we're lucky enough that all the rights happen @ the right time & life consistantly wonderful. then it turns & everythign blows the big one.

at one point i hated my job, had literally 1 friend & she was absorbed in an abusive relationship & I had no hobbie. life sucked. (me & hippy musta crapped in the same bowl)

i read about 30 books, went on lotsa walks, went out to eat/bars/events alone & I met people. i made fun happen damnit.

eventually a few years slipped by, the temporary friends I made helped me through the worst times & then I realized that my job could suck, but it paid the bills - it allowed me to do things i want to do.

i still hate my job, but i've found out a lot about myself - not all good - but isn't self learning a good thing in general?

you take classes, continue to do that. look @ the community college near you for more. learn a language, join a club focusing on that language (jeesh you're in chicago, they're everywhere).

I think i saw somewhere a book about a quarter life crisis - I blamed all the shit on that. now I'm closer to 30 & haven't heard anything on a 1/3 life crisis - so any shit hangin on can & will be delt with.

You should know that you have friends (this really means me) that LOVE LOVE LOVE the tarsnick (whatstha?) outta you!!

yes, sometimes all the doors are closed, so sit on your ass, suck your thumb & cry till the cows come home. eventually the cows will produce ice cream & food & life will be merry again.:D

There is no can't. Only lack of knowledge or fear. Only you can fix your fear.

PMS #227 (just like the TV show)

I'm right there with you Val.

The way I see it, its a phase. Cant expect for every thing to be perfect all the time. Keep your eyes open for these opportunities that would make a good change for you, and dont be afraid to take them.

But not Toronto, thats too close to Montreal.:P

And that's why when everything is going great, I'm just pessimistic and wait for it to all go to heck! Nothing can be great all the time. I guess what really sucked is that my brother tends to be someone who is really there for me. He was being such a brat last night, though, and it's very uncharacteristic of him. When my brother isn't there, I really feel like I've got nothing!

Why do people expect to like their jobs. I hate all jobs, that is why they have to pay me. If it was fun, they would have little Nike computer-geek shoes (and they may :S).

I have other stuff that I would rather be doing. I am really inconvenienced by not being independently wealthy. ;)

Val, I so hear you on this. But if I had not gone through the "life sucking" part, I probably would have never taken up skydiving, or have the great friends that I do now, or many other wonderful things that have happened to me. I am again in a transition phase. I am moving and changing jobs at the end of this month and I am not exactly sure this is what I want to do - but it is kinda necessary for my personal qrowth to move on.

Good luck to you in whatever life brings you. . .

Well Val, at least you have a job to gripe about. [:/]

You can always do what I did when work was slow at Boeing - study for another certification or perhaps even a degree.

I was fortunate - I even wrote articles for Skydiving Magazine on company time with the blessings of by supervision...:)

As much as I don't like it as a learning mode, you could use online CBT (computer-based training) if your overlords won't tolerate textbooks.

like i said, lets compare ding letters. I'll forward mine to you and you can send your to me! At least we can laugh at each others' incompetence. I've started to apply for thigns I don't even qualify for (err, "yes Mr HR rep, I did apply for that position. No, I'm not really a licensed MD< but I dissected a cadaver in Anatomy class.... ") It gets very frustrating and looking for new stuff makes me hate day to day even more. I just laugh a lot and try not to make my coworkers as miserable as I am. or sometimes I like to make them more miserable.

Val,

Life can suck, until you don't have it anymore.

It's hard to hear anyone say anything rational when you are feeling really down. None of it seems to hit the happiness nerve -

But living in this very moment, and relishing whatever life we have seems to be the surest way to appreciation - and that is often the shorter road to happiness.

:D I'm pretty sure there's a ding letter template that they've all been using! "Thank you for your interest in our company...." blah blah blah blah.

Did I mention that my previous, INCREDIBLY cool boss is leaving my company???? :( He was the best boss I've ever had. I don't know if I'll get a boss like him again. He encouraged me to surf the internet when there wasn't much to do. He liked getting the funny websites forwarded to him! Plus, he is incredibly intelligent academically and has common sense. Sigh...

I have one. Actually one of the secretaries has one. I just put the resume in her inbox with a sticky note that says "ding this" and it's back to post whoring I go.
