JohnRich 4 #28 June 22, 2004 QuoteJohnRich, we did raft the Chatooga and had a great time. The water was really high and fast due to a deluge up in the Highlands area. We ended up going 12 miles and did a portion on the river that the guides said they never get to go on because the water is usually too low. It was great! Well, color me jealous! JohnRich 4 #29 June 22, 2004 Quotejohn, those pics are from section 4, eh? i've rafted the chattooga on many occasions. having the boats tow you to the ramp in the tugaloo helps after a long day of paddling. :) I don't remember the section numbers, but that sounds familiar. We did come out into a lake at the bottom end, where a boat met us. We tied up all the rafts into a big barge-like contraption, on both sides and in front of the boat. Then the boat chugs along and pushes everyone back the last mile or so to the boat ramp and take-out point. Here's another photo of my raft going over a level 5 falls. We got hung up on a rock on the top edge, then the current built up behind us, and shoved us over out-of-control. I'm already in the water in this pic - the babe is diving in on top of me. The guy hanging on to the back of the raft with his mouth open in surprise, in the black and red vest, is my oldest son. It's a great shot of him! Everyone was dunked. No one was hurt. Luckily. Ducky 0 #30 June 22, 2004 Hope you enjoyed my back yard! I live about 5 miles from Highlands, NC and trout fish in the Chatooga and West Fork Chatooga weekly. Waterfall hunts are loads of fun, but my personal fav is camping in the rain. I have lived here for a year now and still explore the area every chance I get. Our national forest are truly a treasure and while I'm not a tree hugger I still am amazed when I look out over thousands of acres and can say its mine to enjoy just as it yours to enjoy. Just curious did you get to see Bridal Veil falls or Dry Falls near Highlands?? kwakSometimes your the bug, sometimes your the windshield. Sometimes your the hammer sometimes your the nail. Question is Hun, Do you wanna get hammered or do you wanna get nailed?????
skymama 37 #31 June 22, 2004 QuoteJust curious did you get to see Bridal Veil falls or Dry Falls near Highlands?? On previous trips we stayed in Sapphire Valley and explored the Highlands/Cashiers Falls. We went to quite a lot and those names do sound familiar. I think there were ones called Turtle Back Falls and Bust Your Butt (slang for it, I'm sure) that we went to. The one I'm thinking of, you climb up a rope to get to the top of the fall and then slide down it into a swimming hole. Have you been to that one?She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
