Help with motivation needed

Hey every one. I have no idea what’s wrong with me.
Here is some back round. Ever since thanksgiving of 2002 I have been watching what I eat and I started working out 4 days a week on average. In the last two or 3 months it has been hell going to the gym. So I got a personal trainer to change my routine it was good for 3 weeks. I just can’t get my self to go to the gym. All I want to do is go home chill, read, and watch TV. I never used to watch TV I don’t even have cable.

So someone tell me they went threw this or just tell me what the hell is wrong with me.

All I am thinking of right now is skipping the gym and jumping in the ocean, but if I do that means I have only worked out 4 days in the past 2 ½ weeks.

Maybe you could go to the ocean and use it as your workout. Or you could just save your energy for this weekend. ;)

Don't sweat it. We all go through that . . . I'm currently stuck in a 24-year phase of not working out, but I'm sure it will come to end here soon. :D

Hey, I got motivation for ya! those student landings suck - but are better when you lose weight.... ya, thats it :P :D

But on a serious note, I'm in the same boat.... hence the liquid diet I start here at work in 2 weeks - you think I complained before... just you wait! :D

Hey man, I tried working out with some buddies once. HAHAH. HEck no, that is not for me....

Why do you feel pressured to work out, what is your motivation? Just to feel fit?

Then do this - take up a sport - I like climbing - Its a workout, more aplicable and natural than the gym.
Climbing is great.

Running with pushups, pullups is also great.

weights is too artificial man....

i had that problem. used to be a gym-nazi. had trainer 3 days a week, was in gym 5 or 6 days a week. is it really hot out? that used to get me right out of the mood. do what bertusgert said and try climbing or another activity that livens things up for one or two of your workout days. or take a new class at the gym like kickboxing or something.

and when you figure it out, let me know... i've been in a slump for a bout a year now. :D:D

ooh - I've got a good alternative for ya.

RI actually has the most miles of bike paths for a state in the country (I think I've mentioned that to you before). I'm always doing the East Bay bikepath - goes from E. Providence to Bristol - freakin' GEORGEOUS ride, right on the ocean.

But a bike (Walmart special $110) and ride with me - I do it a couple of times a month at least. Its nice in the summer, especially after work! :)

Hey, I want you to come too!! The more the merrier - shawn won't get off his fat butt and come with me, I need people! LOL :D

All ya have to do is move up here - we unfortunately have TOO many insurance companies (no lie, lots of them are headquartered out of RI due to our corporate taxes and the like. MetLife is up here and at least 3 other BIG name companies... but I know you hate yer job, so forget I mentioned it). :P

The only reason I feel pressured is I have worked very hard to lose about 65 Lb. I am 245 now and would love to be 210 (5'11" Big build).

Your right about the weights I am usually very bored at the gym. I need to find some people to do stuff with. Climbing I don't know about. I know I would love it but I am 245 and I can't do a one handed pull-up hell I can do about 2-3 two handed ones.

But you have given me a good idea. I need too find people to do other stuff with. Now where does a 28 year old who is new to the state go to find basketball buddies?

Did I mention the 3 bedroom apartment above me may be free soon - and the rent is DIRT CHEAP! No lie - it really is.

Sounds like you have no excuse :P

oh ya, you've met Shawn... he's definitely not the "ooh, lets go ride a bike" type :D

Working out? Hah! I'm glad my wife got preggers! It meant I wasn't working out all the time with her.

Of course, once Conor is born, it'll be back to the workouts. We received a Jeep Liberty stroller for him, so we can exercise.

At least the thing is cool!

Did anything change in your life 2-3 months ago. Normally when I have a big switch in energy/motivation levels it's due to something changing in my life.

For example, I now work 50-60+ hours a week in a fast pased high stress job. The 1st thing to suffer was my rock climbing, snowboarding, and hiking. Now all I want to do is calming things like reading and painting, I've decided to go with it, I watch what I eat, but I'll accept the weight gain knowing that things will swing back around when my inner-self feels centered again.

Each person has unique motivational faults when it comes to working out.

I have a couple of suggestions that worked for many people I had to 'motivate' while leading physical fitness training in the Navy. (We have a lot of fat bodies in the Navy).

1. Diversify your cardio workouts to keep them less boring. Don't just run all the time. Run, swim, bike, rollerblade, climb stairs, etc. Also, change the location. Don't run the same path every time you run. Don't swim in the same dirty river. Honestly, these little changes can help keep you in the groove.

2. Balance out your strength training workouts. Don't spend every day on the bench press. If you work chest, you must work back. If you work biceps, you must work triceps. Working opposing muscle groups will create better results.

3. Someone earlier said to identify your goals. This is EXTREMELY important. And, weight loss is a bad goal. Measuring inches is better than measuring pounds. You can work out for months without losing weight, but if you're disciplined, you may be losing many inches. Muscle is heavier than fat, you see.

4. Partner up with someone that will shame your ass into working out. And, shame that person's ass into working out, too. It's easier (in my opinion) to get off my duff and run if I know someone else will be suffering with me.

5. So many of the things we do each and every day are for someone else. We do things for our bosses. We do things for our significant others. We help our helpless family members with things. We pay bills. Working out is for YOU, brother. When you're working out, every ounce of effort you give is given to YOU. Your workout may be the only time in the whole day when you're dedicated to yourself. Take advantage of that. Be selfish. Add ten minutes to the YOU time. If anyone gets huffy about it, $%^& 'em.

Don't think you need to be super strong to be a climber. I'm just getting back into it, I lost a LOT of strength. I can't do a one handed. I can do several normal pullups after having climbed a bit for the last month or so. Just go do it, there will always be something you can climb at the gym. If not, ask for some help, if they see you are enthusiastic, they will assist you with anything.

Not pressuring you, but once you get into it a little bit, you will see what it is all about - you forget about weight and strength - you start focusing on technique and challenge yourself to do better and harder climbs - before you know it, others will look at you bewildered that you can climb that stuff.

I'm sure weegegirl will tell you the same thing!:D:D

Man, i am the opposite.:D I used to lay around and do nothing. Now i go to the gym everyday after work and one day on the weekend. I kayak on sundays and jump every other saturday or so. I love it. I am losing wt., and i feel better.;)

I would say just go with the flow for now and see what happens.;)
