wmw999 2,534 #1 June 18, 2004 I saw it last night. One of the most powerful movies I've ever seen. Two mountaneers go up a mountain. One breaks his leg, and the other tries to lower him down the mountain. Ends up in untenable situation, cuts him away, goes back to base camp. Second guy lives, crawls back. The movie has them narrating in turn (much as the book did). The words are compelling, and the emotions, even almost 20 years later, are raw and fresh. Absolutely stunning. bertusgeert 1 #2 June 18, 2004 Yeah, I saw it quite a long time ago. Similar to the movie "K2". But I think K2 isn't as realistic. But what would I know...Good movies though --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
nacmacfeegle 0 #3 June 18, 2004 The book is great, and not too thick either! What a situation to find yourself in, chop the rope to kill your pal, and try to save your own life..... Not sure how I might deal with that trauma. I'm looking forward to the film.-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. But what would I know...Good movies though K2 sort of glossed over the details of how they got themselves into the mess, but both movies stressed the notion of not giving up, and rescuing yourself. No one else will do it for you.
BANANAFINGER 0 #6 June 18, 2004 Seen the film several times on the big screen, which really does it justice, part filmed at the site of the accident in Peru, action scenes redone in the Alps (cos its easier to casevac from there when you get a bit too realistic....). I dare anyone who has broken a limb/anything not to wince when the Joe Simpson character breaks his leg; at the cinema there was a collective ooouch from 400 people when it was shown. K2 is entertining but not very realistic, still better than Vertical Limit (carry nitro up onto a glacier, that wold be a good idea.....) Experience is a series of non-fatal errors. I thought you were gonna say, "One breaks his leg, and the other guy eats him..."! Oh well, Hi Wendy... Buck P.S. My girlfriend dragged me to see the premier of "The Notebook" the other night. It is definitely a "chick" flick, but I gotta say it was outstanding....go see it!! Starts on the 25th I think....
