It looks EXTRA cool from the air! B|

indeed lighting between clouds from above is simply amazing....makes me wonder how people can doubt the existance of God when she so vividly writes her name in the sky

I hate thunder/lightning storms. For some reason I have always been afraid of them. The, a few years ago my mom was struck (thankfully she turned out okay) and that only made my fear worse. We had a pretty severe storm here last night for the first time in a while. :S

Ah I miss those thunder/lightening storms, but the night time showers are the best!!...not many out here in Cali (not that I'm complaining!!). [:/]
That's why I love going back to Minnesota during the summer!! Best sleeping weather...nothing like em'...and a bit romatic too. ;)

It's been thundering and lightning for over an hour now here. I absolutely love it... I was driving to the store when I saw a bright light just filling the front window of the car. :o For a second I thought I died and was headed to the light... seriously..it was that bright. The sound was so loud that my head hurt for half an hour afterwards. Lightning apparently struck something very, very close to my car but I made it to the store unscathed. Now I am enjoying the wine that I bought and listening to the storm.

I like them, unfortunatly my dog is terrified of them. She is a pretty good source of long range radar though. She starts getting a little nervous when thunder & lightning is about 20-25 miles away. Anyone got a cure for that?

I heard a little beer might work if the dog will drink it. Never tried it. My parents dog will hide all day if there is a hint of thunder.
back to getting hit by lightning..... my Mom was indirectly hit back in the early 70's. She thought it changed her life for the better.
I love the storms too. I wonder why humans love this stuff so much. I bet it was scarry when they used to think it was punishment from the skygods.

Love them, awsome visuals and a wee reminder of our own insignificance in the great scheme.

The coolest lightning takes the form of Sprites, and Megalightning, very little is known about these phenomena, they are much more powerful strikes than previously anticipated.....:oB|

It seems that God keeps his most powerful stuff pretty secret.

Being from southern California, the thunder storms we experience - and that make the news - tend to be a drop of rain, a shimmer of lightening, and a boom of thunder, usually rather distant and faint. Occasionally we will have a real thunderstorm; about 15 minutes between thunder booms, and all of 6 drops of rain. LOL. We usually stop everything and declare a natural emergency if that happens.

However, when I was in Tennessee last year, there was the most astounding thunderstorm. I couldn't resist, and went out into my host's backyard, and just stood there, drenched, and felt the amazingness and awesomeness of the storm...the warm rain, the circular winds (I could literally see the rotation in the trees; fascinating!), the constant bluepurple lightning tinged ghostly green at the edges, and the continuing sound of thunder echoing through the sky.

Of course, I didn't have sense enough to come in...and when I did, I found out that there was a tornado which had been spotted a few miles away. Sort of explains the wind rotation thing. LOL.

That was an experience I will not forget, and one that I look forward to experiencing again.
