SarahC07 0 #29 June 8, 2004 I see the confusion... I was more interested in seeing who had the most jumps without a reserve ride or who had accumulated the most jumps prior to their first reserve ride ... looks like Quade holds that title thus far... And yes, if you haven't had a reserve ride please vote .... Edited to add that I'm reserve ride free at 67 jumps, btw...
freeflir29 0 #30 June 8, 2004 QuoteI was more interested in seeing who had the most jumps without a reserve ride Bill from Nemesis had over 4000 before his first one. He said he had packed almost every single one until that weekend. He was using a packer due to team training.
cloud_monkey 0 #31 June 8, 2004 1253 - I had a malfunction and the tandem that I was filming had a malfunction - made for great video. Then about 100 jumps later I had two malfunctions in 4 jumps. Just goes to show that you never know how or when something is going to bite you in the ass. All you know is that sooner or later it's gonna happen
lummy 4 #32 June 8, 2004 267 and still counting (knock on wood). Came close twice tho. First time was jump 98ish. I was at the American boogie and had planned on doing a TP jump. When I deployed, my canopy immediately started diving to the right.my hands went for my handles immediately but something in the back of my head said "check the brakes first" so I did. Turned out that one of the brakes had popped and as soon as I released the other, all was well. The second time, I made the mistake of pulling my dbag out and putting it back in with a step thru. The canopy flew fine but it took me a few seconds trying to figure out what the hell was wrong and why the brakes were in front. I did my control checks using rear risers and decided to land it as is.I promise not to TP Davis under canopy.. I promise not to TP Davis under canopy.. eat sushi, get smoochieTTK#

cocheese 0 #35 June 8, 2004 It's like a slot machine. Usually nothing happens when you pull the handle... but you're ready for the big jackpot everytime.1st reserve ride = jump 40 something. First chop= not yet.

malboy 0 #37 June 8, 2004 had two mals before i got off student status: one was a streamer on my 14th jump, the other was a tension knot on my 18th, which was also my qualifying jump. i landed the tension knot PLF instead of cutting away, so i dont know if it counts as a mal? hence the name www.ewancowie.com www.facebook.com/ewancowiephotography
jimmytavino 16 #39 June 8, 2004 # 525 i cutaway a French Papillon with shot and a half capewells. Chest mount reserve w/ pilot chute. Mini System Container....It was the summer of '76..26 foot navy reserve, stand up..( it was during a 4 way meet) Then a couple of years later I got out low,,, couldn't locate my pilot chute handle, started going pretty fast...and so pulled my reserve ripcord to feed that same 26" navy conical off my back... routine... Soon after, I towed a pilot chute by twisting my harness ,, while using a bellyband pilot chute pouch......Yikes ... got going pretty fast and was spinning... I knew something was wrong. I had a horseshoe malufunction in progress,,, but didn't know WHY>>>>anyway instead of just pouring out my reserve,, I took an instant and arched hard, and when I came belly to earth I felt the main D-bag hit me on the back of my thighs..( the pilot chute bridle had pulled sheer through the twist and popped my pin, to allow the main to get off my back... .So then i thought there is clear space above my container right NOW!!! and I pulled that blast handle and she took.....I was around 600 feet,,,,that was a bad scenario which I managed to dance away from.... Last one was about 24 years ago.. ( knock wood) I had to cutaway my ParaPlane Cloud when one side was all tied up.... 3 ring release,,, 26 foot Strong Lopo.....nice landing....( also at a meet) Oh One time I had a riser release, upon landing....It was before I owned a rig with 3 rings, and the releases were R3s.... Still individual releases but webbing tabs to pull instead of hard metal like the capewells... The R3s utilized some of the internal parts of the older style capewells and a cutaway required simultaneaous operation of the riser releases one with each hand...... As I landed the riser simply pulled off the harness and I was holding it in my hand.....hahahahaha I've owned a square reserve for 20 something years... but have never used one........
