Meteor? Missle?

Recommended Posts

It was likely a Minuteman III out of Vandenburg. I saw one of those a few years back just after sunset. Clues:

1. Retrograde (i.e. east to west)
2. Leaves a trail if near sunset
3. Exhaust changes dramatically when it leaves atmosphere
4. Should be able to see staging

Could be any number of things. Impossible for anyone to say for sure with limited intel.

Hi Tuna

If we knew who, how, when, and where then we'll have the intell requred to make a statement. But only to the people that have a need to know:)
The flash of light reported north of Seattle a couple of days ago was attributed to a meteor that reportedly hit the ground. Sounds good to me anyone want to but some meteor fragments:P

While driving along the road in the desert from the motorized military base where they play war games with tanks to California City, going right by Edwards airforce base I heard a loud runbling and the sky grew dark for a second. I looked up to see something large, black, and triangular fly overhead. As it turns out it was a stealth bomber! I have since seen those at air shows, but at the time they had not yet been disclosed to the public, so I had never seen anything like it!
So indeed, if you were by an airforce base, it is likely that something like that went by.
Either that or they are finally coming for me. I thought I had a little more time, but I guess it went by faster than it felt!

I'm going to stray off topic for a sec, but a Minuteman III? Not a Titan IV? My understanding is that the Minuteman III was a purpose built ICBM, not very suitable for other payloads. Just a question.
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

A huge meteor burned in up here the other night - lots of people caught it on video. Seismologists (really!) were able to pinpoint it - it blew up about 27 miles above Snohomish.

It was at 02:37, IIRC. The light was intense, so much so that the flash was recorded by a couple of our low-lux CCTV cameras (sprog-watchers)...:D

It was supposed to be visible from BC to Oregon...
