SeaKev 0 #1 June 4, 2004 Jon Cahill, friend and mentor to many firefighters in the Northwest, including myself, died from a fall on Mt. Rainier, yesterday. I would not normally use this medium to voice my emotions, but Jon is deserving. There are many lessons he taught me during the my time at the state fire academy and after. Most of these lessons he is not even aware. He showed me things about firefighting that have allowed me to work outside my comfort zone on the fireground, and off. His lessons have saved lives on several occasions and will continue to do so long after his passing. He always said "make a plan, be decisive". These are truly words to live by. A husband to his wife, father to his children, teacher to some, friend to many, and hero to all. Get some, Jon.
ACMESkydiver 0 #2 June 4, 2004 I'm sorry to hear this, Kev. It sounds like Jon has left a legacy that will continue well beyond his years. Peace to a fallen firefighter.~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action.

Malfunction 0 #4 June 4, 2004 He deserves a hero's departure. Keep his legacy alive. Peace, brother... I may disagree with what you have to say, but I shall defend to the death your right to say it. - Voltaire

Guest #6 June 5, 2004 I read his obit in the paper this morning - it was a very nice piece. Jon Cahill and his partner were climbing the hardest and most dangerous route up Rainer - most of the North side approaches are hazardous, but the Liberty Ridge/Liberty Cap route is the toughest of all. The Liberty Ridge route claimed another climber's life about three weeks ago... I love that mountain, but it takes lives... All the best. mh ."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
