nacmacfeegle 0 #51 June 1, 2004 Three words surely John? Sir George Martin. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. rehmwa 2 #52 June 1, 2004 Another test of greatness: Who died out (burned out) vs who got better with age? I'd give the nod to Clapton and Sting has having ok starts, but now, decades later, they are doing some of their best work with a ton more substance in it. Whereas, for example, the Stones and Aerosmith should just have stopped at some point. (There is no comparison when you listen to Dream On and then some crap like Love in an Elevator to demonstrate the point). ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants

happythoughts 0 #54 June 1, 2004 Last year, I saw the Eagles on tour. Unlike some bands, where there is only one guiding talent, each member has excelled individually. I think they are incredibly talented, but not a rock band. Easy listening. Paul and John were great musicians. Ballads but not rockers. I have seen Led Zep and the Stones live more than once. I think greatness is the lack of repetition. A style is one thing, but the songs should be unique. It's kind of a toss, but I have to go with LZ. quade 4 #57 June 1, 2004 Quote He is to music what James Dean was to movies, tremendous potential but we'll never know how far it would take him. I seriously don't know, does any major artist/group claim he was the biggest influence in music? Well, certainly Los Lobos pays him quite a bit of tribute. He opened the door for Latin Rock.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
lawrocket 3 #58 June 1, 2004 QuoteTo tell you the truth, I am shocked...I have never heard a male openly admit to liking a Neil Diamond song... I like Neil Diamond. I like Barry Manilow. I like Jim Croce. Easily, the Beatles the greatest rock and roll band of all time. My wife is hotter than your wife.
TheRus 0 #59 June 1, 2004 You left out KISS, but since you put Black Sabbath in there I can let it slide. Yeah, it's fine, we'll walk down the line. Leave our rain, a cold trade for warm sunshine You my friend, I will defend... and if we change, well, I love you anyway
chuckbrown 0 #61 June 1, 2004 I read somewhere that the only groups to sell 10 million albums for 5 different records were the Beatles & Led Zeppelin.
