quade 4 #8 May 31, 2004 Best? Hmmm, toughie . . . 1951 -- Rocket 88 - Jackie Brenston and His Delta Kings Generally considered to be the first true Rock & Roll tune. I think the archetypical Rock & Roll tune is Johnny B Goode, covered by -many- over the years (including the Beatles), but ya just can't beat the original 1958 recordings by Chuck Berry. What really makes it the classic style is Berry just hammering on the guitar like -nobody else- up to that time.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
freefallfreak 0 #9 May 31, 2004 They did so many great tunes, I guess it'd be hard to pick the best. The live version of "You Don't Love Me" where Duane talks about King Curtis being murdered is probably the best live cut I've heard. That was one of the few times I heard him talk. That's also Duane on slide guitar on "Layla" by Derrick and the Domino's (Eric Clapton's band). FFF "Upon seeing the shadow of a pigeon, one must resist the urge to look up."
