phoenixlpr 0 #2 May 3, 2010 QuoteAnyone jump a startrac 1? thinking of getting one. Not looking for a hardcore acc. canopy. Any specific reason to jump that? Do you jump accuracy and demo? No? Than go and find a decent canopy!
likestojump 3 #3 May 3, 2010 I jumped it. It's a "typical" F111 canopy. Good for someone who wants that particular kind of wing. Not good for someone wanting a zippy ZP 9cell :(
wildrob 0 #4 May 3, 2010 Yes, I am aware of the differences between zero p and these f111, I guess my ? was geared more to people who do this type of jumping, and demos. there are some things zero p just won't do.
wildrob 0 #5 May 3, 2010 Not a decent canopy? Tell that to the Golden Knights...
phoenixlpr 0 #6 May 4, 2010 QuoteNot a decent canopy? Tell that to the Golden Knights... Sure, I was an excellent choice 15-20 years ago. Get a used ZP canopy unless your are in accuracy. Those fly and land lot better.
topdocker 0 #7 May 4, 2010 I have one for sale! topJump more, post less!
wildrob 0 #8 May 5, 2010 I have a triathlon 160, and 175, these demos are tight. Don't want to use my base canopy, as well need a logo put on. talked to red at flight concepts he was great, and full of knowlegde.
Ron 10 #9 May 6, 2010 QuoteThan go and find a decent canopy! It is a decent canopy. Not ideal for fun jumpers, but one of the best for Demos. QuoteSure, I was an excellent choice 15-20 years ago. Still a good canopy for Demos and accuracy. The GK's still jump them and I dare you to find a more professional demo team. To the OP... I have maybe 1k jumps on Sharpchuters and Trac I's. Do you have specific questions? If I were doing a Demo, I'd rather have the Trac I than anything else. It can open harder than most people are ready for, but you can honestly back them up even with really light winds, and you can stall them all day long and they inflate again on heading. They can be used for CRW, Demos, beginner accuracy, and freefall. The life of the canopy matters... matthewcline 0 #11 May 6, 2010 And to add most all the Military Teams in the US has used them at one point and most still do. With the new option for a ZP top skin they "last" longer and the "Nose Caps" help to ease the openings up. For "Down Town" Demo's I can't think of more than three canopy Models than can do what the Trac's do. But if the OP is looking for a weekend fun Canopy the all ZP 9 Cell models might be the better way to go. MattAn Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!! Top skin wrapping around over the nose openings? FCI's web site is so crummy it doesn't even mention these options on the web pages or on their order form. matthewcline 0 #13 May 7, 2010 Yep, the three center cells have "Caps" that are removable (if you want, once the canopy "breaks in") they are put on after the canopy is fully assembled. This slows the "abruptness" of the openings down, but they can still be "stout". I went to the web page and agree it is a little old fashioned, but I normally did all my business with Red over the Phone and Fax. MattAn Instructors first concern is student safety.
