bertusgeert 1 #1 May 17, 2004 I have been playing around Flight Simulator, and found some pretty cool airports. I then looked them up on Airliners.net, here are some cool pictures. What are some of the coolest airports you have been to, or have seen/heard about? --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei! DrunkMonkey 0 #2 May 17, 2004 Chicago's Merril C. Meigs Field, until that Asshat Mayor Daley closed it under a false "Anti-terrorism" excuse. It was on a man-made island that jutted 2 blocks out into Lake Michigan. It had the best view. Clicky: Meigs Field Too bad I did not have my SEL before they closed it. bertusgeert 1 #3 May 17, 2004 Since this is Flight Simulator's default airport, I know it very well. I know the frequencies and headings for Ohare and Midway as well. Loved playing around Chicago. I played FS from when I was very little, and always dreamed of actually going to Meigs field. I guess the closest I'll ever get is when I fliew over it on my way to a stopover in Ohare, once at night, once in daylight, its very neat indeed! --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei! DrunkMonkey 0 #4 May 17, 2004 Did not know it was MS FS default. I grew up in Chicago, and always dreamed of taking my family to a Bears game in style when I was a millionaire--in my own Cessna Citation...Looks like neither will happen--skydiving takes all my $. Malfunction 0 #6 May 17, 2004 I thought this one was nice when I flew into there last January. Of course, I am from Iowa, where the airports look like this, this (yes, that is one of our larger airports), and this. I may disagree with what you have to say, but I shall defend to the death your right to say it. - Voltaire

FunBobby 0 #9 May 17, 2004 I always thought Sedona is beautiful. It's in Arizona, not far from the Grand Canyon - actually, there are biplane and helicopter tours that fly out of there into the Canyon. The airport lies atop a plateau that overlooks the town. Mountain winds can make that approach kind of tricky. The scenery is absolutely incredible, and I'm not sure any picture could ever capture the area's majesty and beauty, which take visitors' breath away time and again. The surrounding rocks, hills, and valleys look like they're right out of the Grand Canyon. In my last job, our organization had a couple of T-34's (see attached photos), and I logged a lot of time in those aircraft. I flew into Sedona several times on my way across the country on different assigments. I still love that place. You folks who jump at Skydive Sedona sure have a nice view. freeflir29 0 #10 May 18, 2004 I hate airports.......all of them....unless I'm going there to jump. The best part of the day is when I walk OUT the doors for the last time each day.......only to stand around and wait on the shuttle to take me to my car. AggieDave 6 #11 May 18, 2004 Hey, in your flight sim, can you fly into Coulter Field? KCFD? That'd be cool, since that's where I practically live, SD Aggieland.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
ChasingBlueSky 0 #12 May 18, 2004 We had a T34 out at Skydive Chicago this weekend giving rides for the cost of gas! Worth mentioning is that for years, this was the DEFAULT AIRPORT for Microsoft Flight Simulator! (Anyone have a current version? Did they change it?) Someone should cut that shitwad Daley's throat for what he did. What a piece of corrupt dogshit that man is. Thanks for the Sedona pics. Back in '92, my sister graduated from University of Arizona (Tucson) and we all went out for her ceremony. Then we made a series of drives to Sedona, Flagstaff and Grand Canyon. While in Sedona, we had to take my brother to that airport to catch a Cessna connection to another airport because his army leave was over. I didn't get to see much of the airport, though, and what I saw was only from the ground. I'd love to fly in there sometime. - --Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... mountainman 0 #16 May 18, 2004 First, here are some more shots of one of the original photos from Portugal. See how the runway/taxiway is built on a bridge? Wow! http://images.google.com/images?q=madeira%20airport&num=100&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&c2coff=1&safe=off&sa=N&tab=wi Anyway, I play FS2004 everyday. Yesterday, I flew on it for well over 2 hours. Meigs is on there as the default flight. You can fly to pretty much any airport you want. They have Skydive Greene County on there (along with all 3 runways. There is a thread here somewhere where I posted a bunch of screen shots of favorite DZs around the country. Awesome pics of the plane! I think Skymedic flies/flew those for awhile for his in-laws. I always have wanted to ride in one. Would be sweet!http://www.brandonandlaura.com
mountainman 0 #17 May 18, 2004 One thing to note about FS2004 is that it does NOT take you directly into a flight like previous versions did. It takes you to a menu where you choose all aspects of your flight (plane, location, weather, etc) and then you hit FLY NOW. When I say it is the default flight, it is something called "default flight" that is in the menu of "saved flights". Either way... it's still there. AggieDave: There are about 24,000 worldwide airports. jdog 0 #18 May 18, 2004 I like Catalina airport (AVX). http://www.airnav.com/airport/KAVX The runway is on top of a mountain at 1600 feet. Cliffs on both sides of the runway, and it has a big slope to it. If you are on the correct glide path for 22 the illusion is that you are going to smack the cliff face. Passengers really freak when you take them out there.
christelsabine 1 #19 May 18, 2004 The old one is closed since years. landing there you only could stand with eyes closed ore completely drunken. anyhow, it always was fun. dudeist skydiver # 3105
marcandalysse 0 #20 May 18, 2004 I like the approach to SanFrancisco airport too.... As far as airport terminals go, we were really impressed by the Paris Charles DeGaulle international terminal. WOW! Good shopping, good food, and really comfortable modern design.....I will post a photo later. Arriving from the hassles of Bombay Airport, we were in heaven!!! marc

PLFKING 4 #22 May 18, 2004 QuoteI always thought Sedona is beautiful. So true.....I made my first trip there over Christmas, and it was absolutely gorgeous. I took about 40 pics on my digital, and 96 on my Canon SLR. The pics don't do it justice. Does Skydive Sedona operate from that particular airport ? If so, I'll definitely plan another trip. I'd be really pissed off to find out they were open for business at Christmas, and I missed the opportunity to jump there. Don"When in doubt I whip it out, I got me a rock-and-roll band. Shawndiver 0 #23 May 19, 2004 The approach in the old Hong Kong Airport. I remember a steep turn onto final that had you looking right down into the streets while the wingtip appeared to be just a few feet above the buildings. It definitely woke you up after that long Pacific flight!! Shawn_________________
slotperfect 7 #24 May 19, 2004 QuoteChicago's Merril C. Meigs Field I did a couple of demo jumps there in 1992. What a cool location! One of the jumps used the 50 yard line of nearby Soldier Field as the spot. It was cool to be in free fall watching the numbers get bigger and bigger.Arrive Safely John
