I've got some really cool trophies, oops, I mean, scars.

Back in 1998, (Please say out loud using old man voice) I was jumping at Mike Mullins place. Winds were rediculous and I had about 300 jumps at the time but decided against staying on the ground. (*Mistake #1)

Had a kick ass dive with Alan and Trixie Stephenson. But when coming in for landing, (*Right next to hanger, Mistake #2) I caught a wind Rotor off of the hanger and it collapsed my canopy at about 50-60 feet. The bad thing is, I landed on a friends truck that he just bought and had it parked OUTSIDE of the parking lot so it wouldn't get scratched. (*Well, I didn't scratch it, I just caved it in, I know not funny)

I dead centered the roof of the truck, bounced off of the roof, onto the hood then came to rest on the ground, not before I shattered the windshield, ripped off the Antenea Mass, and did some serious "Denting" of the roof and hood.

When I came to rest, I looked down and saw that my right foot was turn around 180 degrees. The first thing that I could think of is: "Damn, that isn't supposed to be like that", so I used my "Good" leg, and kicked it over to the way it was supposed to be. (*Mistake #3, but made a really cool cracking noise)

Total Damages: 4 breaks in leg, Ankle was like powder and 2 breaks in foot.

Total Hardware: 2 plates, 8 screws, 4 pins, 28 very cool staples.

"I am not a Role Model"

Oh, and 3 months and 1 day later, I was back to jumping with my leg cast on!!! (Mistake #4) Doc was not proud of the pictures that I brought him. But they are still up in his office, so that has to say something. B|
Unknowing attempting to take out all 4 wheeled vehicles remotely close to the landing area!

It is interesting that "Femur" is used as a verb among skydivers, but nowhere else. If you hear that someone "femured in", skydivers know that they broke their leg.

People always want to use death statistics when they want to convince you that skydiving is safe. They won't mention the huge number of people (that they know personally) with metal.

ON the fifth anniversary of my first jump, I was out running in the morning. I'm a pretty big-boned girl (really -- i have thick bones), so I actually said out loud to myself, "shoot girl, with a bone structure like this, you'll never break a bone."

WRONG! 4 hours later i was inthe emergency room with a spiral tib/fib, wating in line for my pretty external fixator.

The moral of the story: When a tandem student with bigger bones than you sits on your leg on landing, all bets are off...:|

I've healed completely, so the whole thing's in my life experience file now. :)

I have 7 broken bones in total...none while skydiving or BASE. But while skydiving I have suffered twice sprained ligaments. Severely sprained ligaments in right ankle and sprained ligaments in right knee. The first one while learning swooping, the second one was a miscalculation on double front riser pull on swooping.

I did twist my knee cartiledge tore it back in 1977 or so... but the only thing I ever broke has been my left wrist...by falling backward off my very tall 4x4 pickemup truck 2 years ago. It was just before Salmon season.. I had the Dr set the cast such that a fishing rod could be inserted into my left hand. You have to have priorities:P

If you're talking about a simple limb fracture, that's one of the easiest injuries to come back from. (Of course that doesn't apply to a compound break or fracture of spine, etc.)

I'd much prefer a simple break to injuring soft joint tissue (ligaments, cartilage, etc.)

People break bones doing all kinds of things. My manager broke her ankle mini golfing :D

I finally broke a bone. It was a non-displaced Spiral Fracture of my right Fibula. It was nearly in 2 pieces but I lucked out. The ankle was severly sprained as well and that's going to give me trouble for quite some time.

It wasn't that spectacular or any thing. During the speed portion of a swoop contest, I hit the gates at an angle so I lost a lot of speed. After milking it for as much distance as I could before running through the exit gate, I transfered my weight from the harness to my feet with the intention of sliding. The landing surface was uneven and my right foot rolled straight under and down I went. Since I was very near the exit gate, and I tumbled once already, so another couple barrel roll like tumbles were thrown in to get a score. After draggin my ass out of the swoop lane, I layed there until a truck came. With assistance I hopped to the truck.

A couple of months later, I'm not ready to land my tiny parachutes so for the most part I've been grounded. My BASE canopy is 260 square feet, so with the aid of a lace up brace and paragliding boots, I got back in the air one time last saturday night.

Stay safe out there.

What's there to cure?
I kinda dig the "shiver"...;)

nice workB|

i had to sell my main(xfire99),as i cant run it up anymore[:/],i then got an sabre 120,but i never dared to jump it,now im trying to sell it all,and buy some new bigger.
I have 80 BASE jumps after my injury, but only just under 20 skydives.

if any didnt hear my storry, then here it is:
I went out on a solo,to jump my local A,i lost my breake in the opening,i then simply manneged to stall the canopy on rearrisers, into the soft feild,i made a PLF but my foot got stuck in the ground,it left the leg in a 90degree angel, whith a open fractura
Sadly i had forgot my cellphone in the car(300m/900ft) away from were i were located.I closed the bleedings by replace the leg.I then waited 2 hours before my gf and her dad showed up(she knew that i would jump at that place).the fact were that as my gf got concerned she called 112(like 911)but they didnt belived her story.she found oút as i never arrived to the hospital.
As they(my gf and her dad) showed up at the site,i layed on the ground, only few fts from were i hitted in.I had used my canopy to keep warm(13degree C at that point of year),i asked them to remove the gear and call an ambulance again, this time they told another storry and the ambulance showed up 30 mins later(at that point the gear were in the car out of sight).it took aprox 30 mins to get me into the ambulance and aprox 20-30 mins to get to the hospital, were i fainaly got some morphine.
The doc confirmed that i had replaced my leg myself, but also noticed that i hadt cleaned the bone before i did it(they found stones and dirt inside the bone).

Lesson:
1.NEVER jump whith out a cellphone again EVER

2.ALWAYS wear morphine and light(thouse small red lamps you can have in a pocket).

Stay safe out there

On my 8th jump, I fractured my left knee in 3 places, tore the ACL, MCL, LCL and meniscus. I tried to get up and walk away, but my leg buckled and I fell back down. That was last July. Hopefully, I'll be ready to jump again in about 5-6 weeks.

Only bone I ever broke skydiving was my ass. :D (Coccyx SP?) I think anyway.........never went to the hospital since I knew they couldn't do anything about it. I had 27 jumps and was landing at Raeford. (Runway to road for those that know) Was coming in and several people landed right before me....took my nice open landing area from me. I ended up coming RIGHT by the manifest shed and impacted directly in front of the "Cool Guy" packing pavillion. Used a slight front riser to counteract the "Dragon" and then lost a toggle when I took my hand out of the dive loops. Reach once.....Reach twice...turn to look....OH SHIT. WHAP!!! I limped away telling the little kids there "Don't try this at home!" :D I learned to NEVER put all four fingers in the dive loops! :S

mmmm.. I dont like this club, but I am a member.

while coming in for what should have been uneventful landing, I put my self in the corner w/ no outs, tried diggin it out, but not gonna help. wow?! yea Im still in one piece, have my toggles in my hands and my canopy is still flying. Oh shit, left ankle rolled under me as a ground to a halt.
Initial reports were a sprain, would be better in a couple of weeks. Went to rantol, swelling went down, made three jumps (on different days). came home and it started hurting very badly. Back to the Dr. Oh, youve broken pieces off your talus and tib/fib. Gotta operate, is thursday ok? (this is tuesday)
I severly damaged the soft tissues, so much so some had to be removed, along w/ bone fragments. 3 months later I was jumping again. but now w/ a lace up ankle brace.

Moral of the story: when da peeps say your gonna get hurt, listen, or you will! :SB|

Statistics show that the most dangerous time for a skydiver is between 200 and 500 jumps.
It was jump 497 for me....HOOK and BANG>:(....broken femur. What really pissed me off is 3 more jumps and I've had statistically made it out of the injury zone...But I guess some of us are just are just destined to live by the motto...."Bones heal, Chicks dig scars, pain is temporary but GLORY lasts forever":D

I got nothing from skydiving...*crosses fingers*...but after racing mountain bikes on the Norba, and going pro snowboarding this is my list.

3 concussions
broken collarbone
dislocated both shoulders
broken left arm and right
shattered right wrist....pins and screws for that one
cracked my kneecap

does breaking a finger skydiving count? :P

it was a really bad set of breaks though... 1 large fracture, 2 spiral fractures, and 3 or 4 small fractures... all in a 2 inch bone lol.
i had my fingers jammed in a metal bracket when the 4 way i was in left a little early.
