AAD fire on airplane decent

Recommended Posts

The original design for the cypres had two sets of cutter drivers. The first output drove two cutters that cut the white loops on the risers, releasing them. The second output drove one or two cutters for reserve activation. This helps prevent main/reserve entanglements.

Airtec ended up not pursuing this, but the Cypres 1 still has some of the hardware to support this.

Thanks for the insight on the design. That certainly would have created some different issues for when activations (inadvertent or not) happen under an open canopy.
People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

Also, it might be a great time to remind folks that Mike Mullins tried to get an expert Cypres to fire by diving at grossly excessive speeds on descent - he could not. I am curious if he also tried with a tandem one...

I'm not sure if you're referring to a dive in a plane or under canopy. I think there have been several instances of student Cypreses firing during aeroplane decent, and unfortunately Adrian Nichlas lost his life under a full canopy because he was decending faster than his Cypres activation speed.
