skydiving in advertising.

Recommended Posts

So I have this ongoing discussion about how skydiving is or isnot becoming more prevalent in advertising.
I personally think that yea its may be becoming more visual but i think we see the ads more because we look for them(they catch our eye)
POst links to ads if possible and DUH dont post links to skydiving websites! LOL

what's your opinion?

I see some tv commercials with the stick of gum with an irish accent etc... anything else?

It is actually a cool little commercial. Stick of gum follows a guy out of a plane and goes in after the guys canopy opens. The stick of gum waves his little fists at the guy as he falls away and then lands on a tree limb.

Years ago (94-95) They shot a Visa commercial at my old home DZ. Norm Kent and Joe Jennings shooting the video.

"The sky is clear, a perfect day for a JUMP!"

Then a Otter door flys open and two people fall out doing a Tandem. It was one of those adds where they tell ya they don't take American Express. Most of the jumpers in it where Military and so where rmost of the extra's. It aired for a few months and made our little DZ very popular in Washington St. for a bit.

Lot's of fun to watch them go through the process of actually shooting a commercial. They even let us all try out for a slot in the commercial. They wanted someone to be in the door looking out as the tandem left. The hard part for us all was, that they wanted us to look scared. We just couldn't do it good enough for them. Most uf us where to excited at the prospect of jumping the Otter they had brought in that we couldn't get teh smiles off of our faces long wnough to look scared. They ended up using a wuffo that had no problem being scared in a jump [lane with the door open at 13,000 ft.

Yeah, I just noticed one in my VERY small local paper for a local bank. It was one of the old rounds with all the slits cut in it (please forgive my lack of knowledge on this). The ad was for some kind of overdraft protection or something like that. It said something like "You wouldn't jump out of a plane without a parachute, why would you...blah blah blah...it's nice to know it's there if you need it."

I don't have a link, and I only saw it once.

It was for Cingular wireless in the US.

A Tandem hangs under a tree limb. Tandem student says something like "boy, that was stupid.....".

bad assed TM cuts away tandem student and smiles.

It's REALLY funny.

Anybody else seen that one? I tried to find a link, but couldn't.

I just saw that one last night again.

Actually it is two solo jumpers and the Tandem hung up in trees.

THey are arguing over who should call for help. None of them want to because it is before 7:00 pm (better rates). When they say the Tandem passenger should call, he says "What? Do I look stupid?" The tandem master then disconnects him and lets him fall to the ground. Pretty funny when you see it.

I think my favourite skydiving commercial is the one where it shows someone exiting a twin otter and then cuts to them smacking down on the ground with chute not deployed. Then they cut back to the plane and show the same thing over.
Then an announcer comes on and says somethings take practise or time. And then they say their company will get it right. Then they cut to the skydiver leaving the plane again, and then finally landing under canopy.

it's my favourite commercial right now. But it didn't work because I don't even know what it advertises

I know of the Extra skydiving gum that lands in the tree...

Then there's the "what would jared do?" commercial..doesn't SHOW skydiving but does mention it.

Then there's the breath mints (I think that's what they are)...where it shows skydiving as the original, and a chick in a hammock on a beach as these new tropical flavor ones...

ATM I can think of a recent advert for the "Nissan X-Trail" - lots of clips of extreme sports including about 2 seconds of someone skysurfing.

Plus there is the Boogie Pimps video (somebody to love - look for it on apple.com if you haven't seen it - it rocks). I'm sure I've seen others, but I can't think of them now.

My friend Brook lamianted a copy of his hometown's newpaper and got some stills of him reading it while heads down. The newspaper used it in thier advertising for quite a while.

There's also that big Vodacom billboard on the way to the airport featuring the baby in freefall. Very cute.:)

Added the only pic I could find.
